Questions we’re often asked
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Is South Kenton in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes, South Kenton is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Brent and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
How long is the fitting for eaves storage?
How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?
Yes. The wardrobe follows the angle of the ceiling, with hanging where there’s height. It uses the full height of the room. We’ll work out the layout when we visit.
About our loft storage in South Kenton
We make each eaves cupboard in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. It is then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in South Kenton. We make eaves cupboards from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a dormer that isn’t being used and nowhere to store bags and boxes.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around South Kenton, the hall is often wide enough for coat and shoe storage. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille where there’s a radiator underneath. Eaves cupboards are measured and made for the house you have.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

What else we make in South Kenton
Flats, conversions and lettings
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the design visit.
What loft storage cannot fix
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- Loft conversions, which we don’t carry out
- Adding or replacing insulation
- Building Regulations approval for a conversion
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Spray-painted finish

- Sloped wardrobe tops
- Hand-painted finish
Is it time for loft storage?
A sloping ceiling makes a standard wardrobe impossible. A wardrobe made for the slope uses the full height. It is often the main reason people get in touch about a loft bedroom.
Requests we hear often include:
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- A loft room that still feels unfinished
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
Living in a block of flats near South Kenton station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.
Before you choose who makes it
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- A written quote that sets out the job
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- How parking will work on your street
What it costs
The price for your room depends on:
- The number of doors and drawers
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Spray painting or hand painting
There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.
What we need to know
To help us picture the room, please include:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
From workshop to your room
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning at the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.
- It starts when you get in touch with a few details about the loft.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you, including the headroom under the slope.
- A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
- The cupboards and drawers are made at our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted in the loft and checked, door by door, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
How to prepare
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
Ask for a quote
A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.
