Sudbury Hill Loft Storage
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make loft storage for homes in Sudbury Hill, each designed at a visit to your home.
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
Loft storage designed for your room
How we make loft storage for Sudbury Hill
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. We do not carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. If you have a converted loft in Sudbury Hill, the design visit is the first step. Typical reasons to get in touch are boxes and suitcases with no home and a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Around Sudbury Hill, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the bay window at the front, the space under the stairs and the box room are the usual places to gain storage. Any meters or fuse boards that need to stay reachable are designed around.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Loft storage for homes in Sudbury Hill
In the area around Sudbury Hill, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 53%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 12%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 3 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Sudbury Hill. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home in Sudbury Hill is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
For a flat near Sudbury & Harrow Road station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. The wider area includes historic houses like Northolt Manor, about 2.2 miles west. If your own home is a period one, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. Near listed buildings like Sudbury Town Underground Station, under half a mile south-east of the centre of Sudbury Hill, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Sudbury Hill is in the London Borough of Brent, about 5 miles east of Kilburn. We cover Sudbury Hill as part of our work across Brent. Sudbury Hill is one of the places in Brent where we make loft storage.
Postcode districts we cover here for loft storage: HA0, UB6 and HA1. Our area takes in homes on streets like Elms Lane, Harrow Road and Perrin Road, for loft storage and any of our other fitted furniture. The A4005 runs close to Sudbury Hill; on busy main roads, unloading eaves cupboards takes a little planning. Nearby, we also make loft storage in Sudbury (1 mile west), North Wembley (1 mile east), Brondesbury Park (1 mile east), Harrow on the Hill (1 mile north-west) and Perivale (1 mile south). Across the rest of Brent, our area takes in Kilburn (5 miles east), Neasden (3 miles east), Harlesden (3 miles east), Queen's Park (5 miles east), Kenton (2 miles north) and Church End (3 miles east).

FAQs: loft storage in Sudbury Hill
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Sudbury Hill?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It’s scribed to the slope and walls.
How fitting day works
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are normally straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.
- You get in touch and tell us about your converted or boarded loft.
- We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and go through the design, including the headroom under the slope.
- We send a quote in writing setting out the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
- We make every part in our workshop, cut to the angle of the slope. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted in the loft and checked, door by door, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Keep pets in another room while we work
Getting a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.
Advice
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf furniture is made for straight walls and full-height ceilings. In a loft room, standard pieces leave awkward gaps under the slope. Storage made for the loft follows its shape. It costs more than off-the-shelf furniture, and what you gain is the space a standard piece can’t reach. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What it is made from
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be applied once the storage is in place. It is easy to touch up later. Like any new paint, it needs time to cure fully.
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting gives the storage a very even surface. It is applied in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

How we price loft storage
The price for your room depends on:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.
Getting in touch
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
