Harrow on the Hill Loft Storage

We make loft storage for homes in Harrow on the Hill, designed around the room you have. Your eaves cupboard is designed at a visit to your home and built in our workshop.

  • Boxes and suitcases with no home
  • A boarded loft that is hard to keep organised
  • Wasted space behind the knee walls

Flats, leases and landlords

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the design visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases.

Loft storage in Harrow on the Hill

The space behind the knee wall normally has insulation and ventilation to think about. We design the storage so it doesn’t block airflow or crush insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft. We look at this at the measuring visit in Harrow on the Hill. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about space under the eaves going to waste and no wardrobe that fits under the slope.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Harrow on the Hill, many have had the loft converted, leaving low eaves and sloping ceilings. Those spaces, along with bays and hallways, are where fitted storage can add the most. For lofts, we work in spaces that are already converted or boarded.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What loft storage cannot fix

Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Approval for structural changes
  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
  • Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish

Materials and finishes

Pull-out drawers

Drawers in the knee wall let you use the deep, low space without crawling in. Each one is sized for what it will hold. They’re ideal for clothes and bedding.

Doors and drawer fronts

An access door into the eaves can match the rest of the fronts. It opens fully, so the space behind can still be reached. The other fronts can be doors, drawers or both.

Practical tips

The finish lasts best with a little care. These practical tips help:

  • Note the things that need a home in the loft
  • Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
  • Note any vents or insulation in the eaves
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit

We open each door and run each drawer with you before we go. If there’s an access door to the eaves, we make sure it opens fully. You will know it all works as it should.

Do not overfill drawers, as heavy loads strain the runners. A quick sort every so often helps. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.

Questions from Harrow on the Hill

Do you make loft storage for homes in Harrow on the Hill?

Yes, we work across Harrow, Harrow on the Hill included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Sudbury Hill Harrow station?

Yes, homes across Harrow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, but it’s useful to be around at the end.

Can you get furniture up narrow loft stairs?

We make the storage in sections sized for the route. At the design visit, we measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landings. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room.

What happens when you come to measure?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.

Storage in Harrow on the Hill homes: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 47% of the housing in the area around Harrow on the Hill, with about 14% built between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Harrow on the Hill is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. More than a third of the homes in the streets around Harrow on the Hill (about 47%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Many interwar houses have had their lofts converted, leaving sloping ceilings and eaves to use.

For families living near St George’s Primary Catholic Voluntary Academy, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. The wider area includes historic houses such as Northolt Manor, about 2.1 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. From workshop to your room

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are normally straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
  4. The storage is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall.
