What it costs

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Helping us understand the room

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Bespoke kitchens in South Kenton

Kitchens in period houses bring their own challenges. Few walls are flat, and floors often fall away from the walls, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet, so the worktop you choose can sit level. If your home has cabinets for a narrow kitchen and cabinets built around the appliances you choose, that is what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

A larger semi or detached house may have room for a utility area or boot room by the back door. Much of the housing around South Kenton is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Utility cupboards can be made in the same style and paint colour as the kitchen. Plumbing for any appliance is for your plumber.

The furniture is built in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in South Kenton

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in South Kenton?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in South Kenton?

Yes. South Kenton is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Brent and London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?

No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe registered engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we design around where their work goes.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. Your lease is something we cannot advise on, so it’s worth checking before fitting day.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

Practical tips

The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:

  • List what needs a home in the kitchen
  • Wipe up spills promptly
  • Line up your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer early
  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in

Use the cooker hood or open a window when cooking, to keep steam off the cabinets. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.

Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, especially on a colder external wall.

From workshop to your room

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You contact us about a bespoke kitchen.
  2. At the design visit we plan the kitchen and talk about colours and finish.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the finish agreed.
  4. We make the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which suits kitchens and takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. The kitchen is fitted and scribed to the walls, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. South Kenton is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Neither choice is right for every home. If the room is square and the budget is tight, a ready-made kitchen may do the job. Where the room is tricky, the house is older or you want a painted kitchen that suits it, bespoke is usually worth considering. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
