Loft storage for homes in Tokyngton
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself isn’t our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. If you have a converted loft in Tokyngton, the design visit is the first step. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are boxes piled on loft boards and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs.
In a home built since 2000, there are often spaces the builder left plain, like a recess, a landing corner or an empty cupboard. Many homes around Tokyngton date from 2000 onwards, and fitted storage can make spaces like that far more useful. Drawers and shelves can make use of the full depth.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.
Loft storage in Tokyngton: local notes
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 40% of the housing in the streets around Tokyngton, with about 35% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of Tokyngton is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Around a third of the homes in the streets around Tokyngton (about 35%) were built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Where a newer house has had its loft converted, the eaves and slopes can take fitted storage.
The wider area includes historic houses like Pitzhanger Manor, about 2.8 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. For a family home near Elsley Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. If you live near St. Raphael's Edible Garden, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

FAQs: loft storage in Tokyngton
Do you cover homes near Stonebridge Park station?
Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Tokyngton?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.
Will eaves storage block the ventilation?
Not if it is planned with care. We design eaves storage so it doesn’t block ventilation or squash insulation. For worries about existing insulation or vents, ask the people who did the conversion.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Usually not. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.
How fitting day works
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
- Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
- In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
- We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.
Before fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Empty the space we will be working in
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
Ask for a quote
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Before and after fitting day
New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Note the things that need a home in the loft
- Consider drawers for the deep, low spaces
A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a note of the colour for later. Should you have a question about the storage, tell us about the room on our contact form and we will help.
Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If a door drops or a drawer catches, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us.
What we do not do
Some parts of a job need another trade, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
- Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off
- Electrical work in the loft
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. How it works.
Materials and parts
- Eaves doors and drawers
- Birch plywood
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Spray-painted finish
- Hand-painted finish
- Sloped wardrobe tops
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
