Turnham Green Loft Storage

Planning loft storage for a home in Turnham Green? We start with a design visit and a quote in writing.

  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • Low eaves that nobody can use

Loft storage in Turnham Green

Fitting day, step by step

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that aren’t straight, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so tell us about permits and bays at the design visit.

  1. First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store.
  2. We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft, as everything has to get up there.
  3. The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows, with the finish set out.
  4. The storage is built in our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs.
  5. The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Ask for a quote

It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough sizes. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Loft storage for homes in Turnham Green

We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. We don’t carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. If you have a converted loft in Turnham Green, the design visit is the first step. People normally come to us about furniture that can’t get up to the loft and nowhere to store bags and boxes; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Where original shutters, doors or panelling survive, they’re worth designing around. Around Turnham Green, where homes from before 1919 make up a large share, fitted storage can be designed to sit alongside them. Panel details can be drawn to suit the house, and painted to match. For a listed home, fixing into original joinery can need consent, so check first.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Could you do it yourself?

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

FAQs: loft storage in Turnham Green

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Turnham Green?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Does a conservation area in or near Turnham Green affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?

Not when it is planned well. At the design visit we check what’s there and leave the space it needs. We do not alter insulation or vents.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

It’s something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.

Do you do plastering or decorating?

No. We don’t plaster or decorate, so any work on the walls is for a plasterer or decorator. The furniture is finished by spray or by hand, as agreed in your quote.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

What affects the price in Turnham Green

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • How big the furniture is

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.

Getting in touch

A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, get in touch through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Making use of awkward spaces in Turnham Green

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Turnham Green were built before 1919 (about 56%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 16%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Turnham Green, Historic England’s list includes Chiswick House Conservatory (Grade I), under half a mile west, and Deer House in Chiswick Park Near Italian Garden (Grade I), under half a mile west. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your street in Turnham Green joins a main road, it’s worth telling us at the measuring visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

Hogarth's House, about 0.2 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If you live in a flat close to Chiswick station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If you live near Dukes Meadows, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Flats, conversions and lettings

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the design visit.
