Loft Storage in Isleworth

Planning loft storage for a home in Isleworth? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing.

  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope
  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • Space under the eaves going to waste

Loft storage designed for your room

How fitting works for loft storage

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; if you live in a house, let us know about steps, paths and parking. We plan the details of the day during the design visit. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about your converted or boarded loft, and how you get up to it.
  2. We come to measure the room and the way up to it, and discuss the design, including the headroom under the slope.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out.
  4. The cupboards and drawers are built in our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted in the loft and checked, door by door, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Before fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Getting a quote

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Loft storage for homes in Isleworth

A dormer can take shelves, a desk or a window seat. Dormers have their own shapes, and walls that are seldom square. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It uses space that might otherwise be wasted. We will discuss the options in Isleworth. Typical reasons to get in touch are a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised and standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, so the awkward spaces vary too: a bay, the space under the stairs, a hallway recess or the eaves of a converted loft. The furniture is made for the space as it is. Meters, fuse boards and boilers keep the access they need.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Honest limits

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion
  • Converting the loft itself, which is not our work
  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Your questions about loft storage in Isleworth

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Isleworth?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Do you do plastering or decorating?

No. Plastering and decorating aren’t part of our work. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.

Which materials go into your loft storage?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

Isleworth homes and loft storage

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Isleworth were built between 1973 and 1999 (about 34%) and since 2000 (about 22%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Isleworth include Syon Park Boathouse the Pavilion (Grade I), about 0.5 miles east, and Gumley House (convent) (Grade II*), less than half a mile south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Hounslow sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning during the design visit.

If you live in a period home close to Church of All Saints, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If you live in a flat close to Isleworth station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If your children go to St Mary's Catholic Primary School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

Could you do it yourself?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

What affects the cost of loft storage

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • How square the room is
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To start, use our contact form.

What to send when you contact us

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To book a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Is bespoke worth it?

Ready-made wardrobes and cupboards are built for standard rooms. Under a slope, it leaves large gaps and wasted space. Storage made for the loft follows its shape. It is a bigger investment, and the gain is the space it uses. Walls and floors are seldom perfectly flat in any home, and standalone units show it with gaps and wobbles. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room as they go in.

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
