Loft Storage in Woodlands

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make loft storage for homes in Woodlands, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • Nowhere to store bags and boxes
  • Space under the eaves going to waste

Loft storage designed for your room

About our loft storage in Woodlands

Many loft rooms are bedrooms, and storage for clothes is the first need. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. We design them around what you need to store in Woodlands. If your home has clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom and an empty dormer that could hold shelves, that is what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

In a family house, the hall and stairs usually carry the most clutter. Around Woodlands, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses make up a big part of the housing, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Meters and fuse boards stay easy to reach.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Questions we’re often asked

I live near Isleworth station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Woodlands?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Should I send photos?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.

Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?

Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It is cut to fit the ceiling and walls exactly.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character.

Is bespoke worth it?

For simple storage in a boarded loft, ready-made shelving can do the job. Bespoke work makes sense in a converted loft room, where the storage is part of the room. We’ll give you an honest view at the measuring visit. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors aren’t perfectly true, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Fitted storage in Woodlands

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 32% of the housing in the streets around Woodlands, with about 25% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Within a mile of the centre of Woodlands, 4 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. A quarter or more of the homes in the area around Woodlands (about 25%) were built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Where a newer house has had its loft converted, the eaves and slopes can take fitted storage; we build once the loft is converted or boarded.

If you live in a period home close to Church of St Mary the Virgin, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. Close to Inwood Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

From workshop to your room

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Interwar houses normally have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Eaves cupboards arrive in sections and are assembled in place.

  1. You let us know about the loft room.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. The storage is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
  5. The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
  6. Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Getting a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

What affects the price in Woodlands

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

What we need to know

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Where you live, with the postcode

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

What prompts loft storage in Woodlands

Some people want to hide clutter in the eaves. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. The room stays calm and clear.

Requests we hear often include:

  • Boxes and suitcases with no home
  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • Furniture that cannot get up to the loft

How to choose a carpenter in London

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
