Each eaves cupboard is made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Once painted, by spray or by hand, it’s carried up and fitted in your home in Roundshaw. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe and furniture that can’t get up to the loft.

A large share of the homes around Roundshaw date from 2000 onwards, and in a newer house with a converted loft, the eaves and slopes are worth using. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Elsewhere, fitted storage is fixed to plasterboard walls with fixings that suit it.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

FAQs: loft storage in Roundshaw

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Roundshaw?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Is Roundshaw in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes, we work across Sutton, Roundshaw included, and across the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it’s useful to be around at the end.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.

How long will the loft storage fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The storage is made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Loft storage in Roundshaw: local notes

About 40% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Roundshaw went up since 2000, and about 27% between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Roundshaw is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Terraced houses are home to about 31% of households in the neighbourhood around Roundshaw, the 2021 Census shows. Loft conversions are common in London terraces, leaving eaves and sloping ceilings to use; we build once the loft is converted or boarded.

Near listed buildings like Church of St Michael and All Angels, about 0.5 miles north-west of the centre of Roundshaw, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live in a flat close to Wallington station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Before and after fitting day

Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Think about how you will reach into the eaves
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
  • Note any vents or insulation in the eaves

Heavy items are best kept in the lower parts of the storage. That keeps the drawers running smoothly. Shelves are made for what you told us you’d store.

Loft rooms can be warm in summer and cool in winter. Keep the room ventilated. That keeps the storage and the paint in good order.

Do you need loft storage in Roundshaw?

Some people want to make more of a dormer. Built-in furniture in a dormer puts it to work. It uses space that is otherwise empty.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room

If you live near Waddon Ponds, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Whether they measure the room themselves

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off
  • Electrical work in the loft
  • Structural changes, like cutting into rafters or joists

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will tell you. How a job runs, step by step.

How fitting works for loft storage

The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Door frames and corners get covers too. The sections are assembled in the room.

  1. You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
  2. We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. We build the storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to get up to the loft.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand

Arranging a design visit
