About fitted wardrobes in E98
Fitted wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. We make fitted wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about clothes with nowhere proper to go and musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall.
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote.
- You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
- We visit to measure the room and discuss the design.
- You receive a quote in writing setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish, so you can see what’s included.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We install the wardrobes, hang the doors and fit the rails, shelves and drawers.
How our quotes work
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit, then set it out in the quote.
Why homeowners in E98 choose us
- Built around your room
- A design visit, then a written quote
- Scribed to uneven walls
- A spray or hand-painted finish
How to get a quote
Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, message us from the contact page with some details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
Around East End of London
In East End of London, that includes homes near Church of St Mary, Bishopsgate Institute Special Collections and Archives and St Mary and St Michael Primary School. Other local landmarks include Stepney Green Park (a few minutes’ walk north-east), St Mellitus College (a few minutes’ walk south-west), George Tavern (under half a mile east) and Bishop Challoner Boys' School (close by, under half a mile east). East End of London has its own railway station: Shadwell station. Well-known places in the area include Surrey Quays Shopping Centre (1.3 miles south) and Tower of London (1 mile south-west). Not far away are Lavender Pond and Tower Hill.
Homes across E98 and their bedrooms
Across E98, bedrooms range from period rooms with high ceilings to compact rooms in newer blocks. Fitted wardrobes are drawn up to suit the room you actually have.
About 36% of the homes in the E98 postcode district went up since 2000, and about 21% between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Around a third of the homes in E98 (about 36%) were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Newer homes often have compact bedrooms with plasterboard stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs. Purpose-built flats are home to about 78% of households in E98, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
We cover the whole of London, so homes in E98 are well within our area. Tell us about access and parking when you first get in touch.
East End of London: Close to Stepney Green Park? Fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. Living in a block of flats near Shadwell station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.
What it is made from
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front as you prefer. Inside drawers keep the front simple.
Birch plywood
Drawers get heavy use, so we often make the boxes from birch plywood.
Flats, leases and landlords
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
How we price fitted wardrobes
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- The width and height of the space
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
What to send when you contact us
Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- How you want to use the space
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.
Do you need fitted wardrobes?
An awkward room is another reason. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in tricky spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. We shape fitted wardrobes around those features.
People usually get in touch with us about needs like these:
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
- A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
- Wasted space beside the chimney breast
- No space in front for doors to swing
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in E98
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that’s often wasted and can include bedside shelves. We measure the bed and the room during the design visit.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.
Is it possible to build wardrobes into a loft room with a slope?
Yes. The wardrobe is shaped to the ceiling line, with long hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers where it is lower. It makes good use of space that is hard to furnish.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
Uneven floors are normal in older homes. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth.
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
We plan it with you at the design visit, starting from the clothes you have. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.
Do you work in E98?
