About fitted wardrobes in E2
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and clothes pressed against a cold wall can lead to condensation. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it to help avoid condensation and mould. Moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice there too. Most enquiries start with mismatched bedroom furniture and standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
At the end, we tidy up. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- It starts when you let us know about the room, the floor it is on and the wardrobes you want.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
- A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It’s useful to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.
Why householders in E2 choose us

Arranging a design visit
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, fill in our short enquiry form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Landmarks near Bethnal Green
Our area takes in the homes around Oaklands School, Lawdale Junior School and Bethnal Green Gardens and the streets around them. You will also find St Peter's (within half a mile north-west), Sebright Arms (a few minutes’ walk north-west), Bishopsgate Institute Special Collections and Archives (1.1 miles south-west) and Young and Talented School of Stage and Screen (within half a mile south). Bethnal Green has its own railway station: Cambridge Heath station. Well-known places in the area include London Chest Hospital (0.5 miles east) and Vagina Museum (within half a mile north-east).
Homes across E2 and their bedrooms
Across E2, bedrooms range from period rooms with high ceilings to compact rooms in newer blocks. Fitted wardrobes are drawn up to suit the room you actually have.
About 33% of the homes in E2 went up since 2000, and about 26% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. A quarter or more of the homes in E2 (about 26%) were built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, fixed to suit the wall. About 33% of homes in the E2 postcode district were built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Newer homes often have compact bedrooms with plasterboard stud walls, so fitted furniture is fixed to suit the board.
In London, the route into a home matters as much as the room, so we look at both during the design visit.
Bethnal Green: For an older house near St Peter's, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. Near listed buildings like Church of St John on Bethnal Green, under half a mile east of the centre of Bethnal Green, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Under a sloping ceiling, standard wardrobes leave most of the space unused. A bespoke wardrobe can be shaped to follow the slope, with hanging where it’s tall and drawers or shelves where it is low.
Before you hire any carpenter
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
Could you do it yourself?
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
The problems fitted wardrobes solve
Others simply want the room to feel calmer. A run of painted doors from wall to wall looks quieter than several separate pieces, and everything has a place behind it.
If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:
- No space in front for doors to swing
- Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
- Clothes with nowhere proper to go
When you need someone else
It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Building work to create a loft room
- Treating damp or mould on the walls
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
Questions from E2
Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?
The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it is worth checking the lease first.
What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?
It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish. We send a written quote after the design visit.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
What happens when you come to measure?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Do you work outside London?
No. We cover London only: every London borough and the City of London.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
