Dagenham Green TV and Media Units

In Dagenham Green, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. Your TV unit is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.

  • Boxes and consoles on the floor
  • Nowhere good for speakers
  • Empty alcoves beside the TV

What affects the price in Dagenham Green

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The number of doors and drawers

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.

Before the design visit

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

TV and media units in Dagenham Green: what you get

Built-in TV and media units bring the screen, set-top boxes, speakers and cables together in one piece of furniture. Instead of a stand, a tangle of wires and a few odd shelves, the whole wall is designed at once. If you’re planning a TV unit in Dagenham Green, the first step is a design visit to measure up and look at your equipment. Most enquiries start with a screen at the wrong height and boxes and consoles on the floor, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Dagenham Green, the main room is often well proportioned, with a bay, a chimney breast and not many other recesses. That leaves room for TV and media units in the alcoves, along a full wall or around the chimney breast. Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood keep the pieces stable, and the paint finish is agreed with you.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

What TV and media units can’t fix

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Moving sockets or adding new wiring, which is for your electrician
  • Aerial, satellite or broadband installation
  • Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.

What happens on fitting day

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the TV wall.
  2. At the design visit we measure the wall and also the hall, stairs and doorways the unit has to pass through. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
  3. A written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
  5. The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Before fitting day

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Getting a quote

It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, particularly with rough sizes. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Flats, leases and landlords

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the design visit.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

The problems TV and media units solve

Boxes, consoles and routers on the floor are a familiar sight. A media unit gives each box its own ventilated space.

Some of the things we’re asked to solve include:

  • A TV that looks out of place in the room
  • A tangle of wires behind the TV
  • Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
  • Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste

If your home is one of the older houses near St Martin's Church, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

What to check before you book

  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
  • How doors and drawers are fitted

FAQs: TV and media units in Dagenham Green

Do you cover homes near Dagenham Dock station?

Yes, homes across Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Dagenham Green?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

That is normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Do you move sockets for a TV unit?

We do not do electrical work. Your electrician handles sockets and wiring, and Part P of the Building Regulations covers some electrical work in homes. We tell you where the unit will sit so the sockets end up in the right place.

What happens at the measuring visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

Can the TV be wall-mounted with a unit around it?

The unit can be planned either way. For a wall-mounted TV, the layout works around the bracket position, and if it stands on the unit we size the top for it.
