Bowes Park TV and Media Units
We make TV and media units for homes in Bowes Park, designed around the room you have. We design your TV unit at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- A TV that looks out of place in the room
- Equipment with nowhere proper to go
- A TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall

TV and media units in Bowes Park: what you get
Hiding the cables is often the main aim. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. The routes are ours, while any wiring is for your electrician. If your home has equipment with nowhere proper to go and a screen at the wrong height, TV and media units made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
Older houses tend to come with picture rails, tall skirtings and cornices, and TV and media units need to meet those lines neatly. A large share of the housing around Bowes Park went up before 1919, so those details are worth looking at closely during the design visit. The top of the furniture can stop at the picture rail or carry on to the cornice, whichever suits the room.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Common questions about TV and media units
I live near Alexandra Palace station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Haringey and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
How do you fit TV and media units in a flat in Bowes Park?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Normally not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
How fitting day works
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch and list what the unit has to take: the screen, boxes, consoles and speakers.
- We visit to measure up, note where the sockets are and plan how the cables will run. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
- A quote in writing follows for the unit.
- We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, leaving routes for cables and gaps for air.
- We fit it in your home and leave the cable routes ready for you to use.
Preparing the room
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
Starting with a design visit
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What it is made from
Birch plywood
Long shelves under a screen need to stay straight. Birch plywood helps.
Doors and drawer fronts
Many remote controls need a clear view of the box, so we may leave those shelves open.
What it costs
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How big the furniture is
- Parking and unloading on your street
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Before the design visit
There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
TV and media units for homes in Bowes Park
Homes built before 1919 make up about 56% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Bowes Park, with about 13% built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Within a mile of the centre of Bowes Park, 11 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Haringey included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Bowes Park is covered by it. Access and parking are talked through at the measuring visit.
If you live near Woodside Park, TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear. For an older house near St Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Top Rank Club, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Before and after fitting day
The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:
- Book your electrician first if sockets need to move
- Think about which things need to be seen by a remote
- Choose how the TV will sit before the design is finished
- Note the size of each box and speaker
Once your equipment is in, check that it isn’t running hot. Do not block the gaps and openings left for air with cables or clutter.
Avoid piling devices on one shelf because heat builds up between them. Each one needs space around it.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Screen sizes change, and a stand that suits today’s set may look small with the next. We can leave room for a larger screen. Standard units assume square rooms, and period homes seldom have them, so you end up with gaps, wobbles and units that don’t meet the skirting. Fitted pieces follow the wall and sit level.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit, then set it out in the quote.
