About our loft storage in Bowes Park

We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. We do not carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. If you have a converted loft in Bowes Park, the design visit is the first step. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are space under the eaves going to waste and seasonal things cluttering the loft room.

A large share of the homes around Bowes Park were built before 1919, and older houses have lots of odd corners: the space under the stairs, the bay at the front, the alcoves, the hallway recesses and, where the loft has been converted, the eaves. Fitted storage is designed to make those spaces useful.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.

Loft storage in Bowes Park: local notes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 56% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Bowes Park, with about 13% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Bowes Park include Top Rank Club (Grade II*), less than half a mile south-east, and Trinity Primary School (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your street in Bowes Park joins a main road, it’s worth telling us at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

If you live in a period home close to St Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. Close to Woodside Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Questions from Bowes Park

How do you fit loft storage in a flat in Bowes Park?

At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Bowes Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Drawers in the knee wall typically involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Which materials go into your loft storage?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

How fitting works for loft storage

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.

How to get a quote

Advice

Could you do it yourself?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

How we price loft storage

What you pay depends on:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit.

Getting in touch

A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, particularly with rough measurements. To share them, get in touch through our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Is it time for loft storage?

Some people want to make more of a dormer. Shelves, a desk or a seat in the dormer make it useful. It adds storage without crowding the room.

People normally get in touch with us about things like these:

  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
  • Boxes piled on loft boards

Bruce Castle, about 1.7 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
