Bush Hill TV and Media Units

Planning TV and media units for a home in Bush Hill? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a written quote.

  • Equipment with nowhere proper to go
  • Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
  • Clutter around the TV

TV and media units for homes in Bush Hill

Speakers need their own thought. A soundbar usually sits just below the TV. Speakers work best in the open rather than behind closed doors. Typical reasons to get in touch are standard units leaving gaps and a tangle of wires behind the TV; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Bush Hill, many homes have had the front and back rooms knocked together. The result is often a long room with a chimney breast, a good spot for TV and media units. Cable routes for a TV or speakers, and space for set-top boxes, are planned at the measuring visit, with any new sockets left to your electrician.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Before and after fitting day

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Plan open spaces for anything controlled by a remote
  • Check where the seating will go
  • Book your electrician first if sockets need to move
  • Let us know about access early

Use the access panels and cable routes when you add or change leads. It keeps the unit tidy.

Ask your electrician about new sockets rather than running extension leads through the unit, and do not overload sockets.

Built-in living-room furniture in Bush Hill

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 39% of the housing in the streets around Bush Hill, with about 20% built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Bush Hill, Historic England’s list includes The Tower (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Enfield has its own. If your road in Bush Hill falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the measuring visit.

For a family home near Grange Park Preparatory School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design. If you live near Enfield Town Park, TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear. The wider area includes historic houses like Forty Hall, about 2.1 miles north. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

Bush Hill is about 2 miles south-east of Edmonton, in the London Borough of Enfield. Wherever you are in Bush Hill, it works the same way: a design visit, a written quote, furniture made in our workshop and fitting in your home. Our work takes in places right across Enfield.

Postcode districts we cover here for TV and media units: N21, EN1 and EN2. • Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

Common questions about TV and media units

Do you cover homes near Grange Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Does a conservation area in or near Bush Hill affect fitted furniture?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Who moves the sockets for a built-in TV wall?

Electrical work is not something we do. Your electrician handles sockets and wiring. We share the layout so the sockets line up with the design.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you use our contact form.

Can a built-in unit hide all the wires?

That is the aim, and it’s planned from the start. Access panels make future changes easy without taking the unit apart. For a wall-mounted TV, a route behind the screen is planned in.

Can you plan for a future TV?

The space can be sized for a larger TV, if you expect to upgrade. Mention the largest screen you might buy when we visit.

Is bespoke worth it?

TVs keep getting bigger, and a stand chosen for today’s set may not suit the next. We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind, so the unit lasts longer. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

How we price TV and media units

What you pay depends on:

  • How square the room is
  • The internal fittings
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The overall size of the piece

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Helping us understand the room

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

From workshop to your room

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
  2. At the design visit we measure the wall and plan cable routes and ventilation, as set-top boxes, consoles and amplifiers need air. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
  3. A quote in writing follows for the unit.
  4. The unit is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable openings and vents cut in.
  5. We fit it in your home and leave the cable routes ready for you to use.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Starting with a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
