Cranford TV and Media Units

Thinking about TV and media units in Cranford? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing.

  • Empty alcoves beside the TV
  • A TV stand that does not fit the wall
  • A cabinet that traps heat

TV and media units in Cranford

Built-in TV and media units bring the screen, set-top boxes, speakers and cables together in one piece of furniture. The wall is planned as a whole, rather than a stand with wires trailing behind it. For a living room in Cranford, the first step is a design visit to measure up and look at your equipment. Most enquiries start with empty alcoves beside the TV and nowhere good for speakers, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

In an area like Cranford, where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, many living rooms have been opened up to the dining room behind. The result is often a long room with a chimney breast, a good spot for TV and media units. Cable routes for a TV or speakers, and space for set-top boxes, are planned at the measuring visit, with any new sockets left to your electrician.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished.

Questions we’re often asked

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hayes & Harlington station?

Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Cranford?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

How long fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.

Can a TV unit hold speakers?

We plan open spaces for speakers and soundbars. Closed doors muffle sound.

Do pictures help?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It’s useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease.

When is bespoke worth it?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s easy to buy.

Living-room storage in Cranford

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Cranford were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 48%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 35%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The Cranford Park Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Cranford. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Hounslow sets its own rules. Depending on your street in Cranford, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

For a flat near Hayes & Harlington station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. Close to Hounslow Heath? A room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone.

What affects the cost of TV and media units

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How square the room is
  • The internal fittings

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, use our contact form.

Helping us understand the room

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough measurements. To share them, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Fitting day, step by step

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are typically straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. You send us a note about the room and the unit you’d like.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and talk about colour and finish.
  3. You get a quote in writing covering the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, and any hand painting is done in the room. Go gently with new paintwork while it cures.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

The problems TV and media units solve

The most common reason is a mess of wires. Cables run everywhere, from the screen to the boxes and the wall. A built-in unit gives them a planned route.

TV and media units can help with:

  • Cables trailing across the wall
  • Standard units leaving gaps
  • Wasted space around the screen
  • Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard

For a family home near Cranford Primary School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the measuring visit.
