TV and media units for homes in Kingsbury
TV units are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in a colour agreed with you. We work across London, including Kingsbury. Typical reasons to get in touch are a big screen that dominates the wall and nowhere good for speakers; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
A good part of the housing around Kingsbury is interwar, semi-detached or detached. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the front room may have a bay window at one end and a chimney breast on the side wall, and that layout shapes where TV and media units work best. Walls are often truer than in older houses, but they’re still measured carefully and scribed where they wander.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

FAQs: TV and media units in Kingsbury
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Kingsbury?
Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London, and Kingsbury is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Kingsbury?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Can you build a TV unit for a wall-mounted TV?
If the TV is wall-mounted, we design the unit around the bracket position. The bracket needs a sound wall.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
The time on site depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll explain what fitting day involves before we start.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us, and we’ll see what we can do.
Fitting day, step by step
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. Elsewhere in the house, the route is usually more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure the wall and plan cable routes and ventilation, as set-top boxes, consoles and amplifiers need air.
- A quote in writing follows for the unit.
- We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, leaving routes for cables and gaps for air.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish and the routes left clear.
Preparing the room
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Do you need TV and media units in Kingsbury?
In an open-plan space, the TV wall is on show from everywhere. A built-in unit gives that wall order.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
- Speakers muffled behind doors
- Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
- A TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Kingsbury Manor, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
Choosing a carpenter
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
Kingsbury homes and TV and media units
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Kingsbury were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 77%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 16%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Kingsbury is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Brent included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Kingsbury is covered by it. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.
If you live in a flat close to Hendon station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If you live in a period home close to Church of the Holy Innocents, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
A bespoke unit is not instant: there is a design visit, a quote and making time. If you’re renting or moving soon, a standalone stand may suit you better. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

When you need someone else
Not everything around TV and media units is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Setting up and tuning the TV, boxes and speakers
- Structural changes to the wall
- Moving sockets or adding new wiring, which is for your electrician
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the measuring visit.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.
