TV and media units in Leamouth, Tower Hamlets

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on TV and media units in Leamouth starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

  • Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
  • A TV that looks out of place in the room
  • Equipment with nowhere proper to go

TV and media units in Leamouth

A built-in TV unit gives the screen, the boxes, the speakers and the cables one planned home. The wall is planned as a whole, rather than a stand with wires trailing behind it. For a living room in Leamouth, the first step is a design visit to measure up and look at your equipment. If your home has bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room and a tangle of wires behind the TV, that is what TV and media units are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Open-plan living is usual in homes built since 2000, and around Leamouth many homes date from those years. TV and media units can give the sitting end of an open-plan room its own identity. Finished floors in newer homes mark easily, so they’re covered while we work.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Could you do it yourself?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.

How fitting day works

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.

  1. You describe the TV wall and your equipment.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a quote in writing. If anything in it is unclear, ask us.
  4. We then make the unit in our workshop, with cable routes planned in.
  5. We bring it to your home and fit it in place, with the cable routes left clear.

Living-room storage in Leamouth

In the streets around Leamouth, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 81%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 8%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Leamouth, Historic England’s list includes Trinity House Chain Locker and Lighthouse Block (Grade II), less than half a mile south, and Church of St Luke (Grade II), under half a mile east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. About 81% of homes in the neighbourhood around Leamouth were built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). In homes built since 2000, living rooms are often open-plan with stud walls, so the fixings go into the studs, or heavier pieces stand on the floor.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Queen's House, about 2.1 miles south. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Luke, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. Close to Bow Creek Ecology Park? TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it.

Flats, conversions and lettings

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising at the design visit.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases.

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

Doors can hide boxes and clutter.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is stiff and grips screws firmly, so it is good for shelves that carry equipment and speakers.

What it costs

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How big the furniture is
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Helping us understand the room

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you’re ready, fill in our short enquiry form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Your questions about TV and media units in Leamouth

I live near Custom House station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

My home in Leamouth is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, but it is useful to be around at the end.

Can you build a TV unit for a wall-mounted TV?

Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket. The wall needs to be sound for the bracket, which we look at during the design visit.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

What if I buy a larger TV?

The space can be sized for a larger TV. Mention the largest screen you might buy when we visit.
