TV and media units for homes in Bethnal Green
We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The finish is spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. We fit across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London once the design and quote are agreed. Typical reasons to get in touch are speakers muffled behind doors and cables trailing across the wall; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Most households around Bethnal Green live in purpose-built flats, from mansion blocks to modern developments. In a mansion block flat, the living room may still have a chimney breast and alcoves, and walls that are far from flat, whereas a modern flat tends to have plasterboard walls and an open-plan layout. TV and media units are designed for whichever you have.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the TV unit we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

How fitting day works
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Noise from drilling travels in a block, so neighbours may appreciate a note, and many buildings limit noisy work to certain hours. We plan the day to suit those rules. Saturday work is by prior arrangement where the building permits it.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
- We visit to measure and go through the design and how the unit should look in the room.
- You get a written quote covering the design, the materials and the finish.
- We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, and any hand painting is done in the room.

- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Ask for a quote
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To book one, get in touch through our contact form.
Advice
What we don’t do
Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:
- Connecting and setting up your equipment
- Plastering or decorating around the unit
- Removing a chimney breast or any structural work
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Why people ask for TV and media units in Bethnal Green
Some want the TV to sit better in a period room. Building it into the alcoves or around the chimney breast makes it part of the room, rather than the focus of it.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- A cabinet that traps heat
- Boxes and consoles on the floor
- Empty alcoves beside the TV
- Standard units leaving gaps
For families living near Lawdale Junior School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design.
Choosing a carpenter
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

Questions we’re often asked
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Bethnal Green?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Bethnal Green?
Yes, we work across Tower Hamlets, Bethnal Green included, and across the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Where should speakers go in a TV unit?
Speakers and soundbars get open shelves sized for them. Closed doors muffle sound.
How do you hide the TV cables?
We design the unit so cables run out of sight. Access panels make future changes easy without taking the unit apart. For a wall-mounted TV, a route behind the screen is planned in.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standard units come in fixed sizes. Ours are scribed to the walls and can run up to the ceiling. Standard furniture does not allow for boxed-in pipes, risers or meter cupboards, leaving gaps or blocking access. Fitted furniture is built around them.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit.

Built-in living-room furniture in Bethnal Green
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Bethnal Green were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 29%) and since 2000 (about 27%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The National Heritage List has 98 entries within half a mile of the centre of Bethnal Green. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and TV and media units can be designed to work around them. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. So a van fitting furniture in Bethnal Green typically needs a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay arranged through the council. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
The wider area includes historic houses like Sutton House, about 1.4 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. Close to Bethnal Green Gardens? Shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green.

When is bespoke worth it?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
