Our TV and media units across Tower Hamlets
We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in a colour agreed with you. We work across London, including Tower Hamlets, after a design visit and a written quote. We make TV and media units from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a screen at the wrong height and nowhere good for speakers.
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
- We visit to measure and go through the design and how the unit should look in the room.
- A written quote follows, with the finish set out.
- The unit is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which takes paint well, and birch plywood.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, and any hand painting is done in the room.
What affects the price in Tower Hamlets
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Arranging a design visit
Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, use our contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

TV and media units across Tower Hamlets: local notes
Living rooms across Tower Hamlets vary a lot, from knocked-through period rooms to open-plan new builds. TV and media units are designed for the one you have, with cable routes and ventilation for any screen or set-top boxes planned in. The carcasses are moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood.
About 45% of the homes in Tower Hamlets went up since 2000, and about 20% between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. About 45% of homes in Tower Hamlets were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. In homes built since 2000, living rooms are often open-plan with stud walls, so the fixings go into the studs, or heavier pieces stand on the floor. Purpose-built flats are home to about 81% of households in Tower Hamlets, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. For a flat, TV and media units are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
Controlled parking zones cover large parts of London, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges. Let us know about parking during the design visit.
Whitechapel: If you live in a period home close to St Mary Matfelon, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. Near listed buildings like Church of St Botolph, less than half a mile south-west of the centre of Whitechapel, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
A bespoke unit isn’t instant: there’s a design visit, a quote and making time. If you’re renting or moving soon, a standalone stand may suit you better.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- A written quote that sets out the job
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
Boards, parts and paint
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done in your home after fitting. It’s easy to touch up later.
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribing trims the edges on site to follow the wall, so there’s no gap.
How we price TV and media units
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Spray painting or hand painting
Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.
What to send when you contact us
A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Approximate measurements of the space
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, use our contact form.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Flats, leases and landlords
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the design visit.
Common questions about TV and media units
How much will my TV unit cost?
Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it. We send a written quote after the design visit.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations. Check your lease, as we cannot advise on it.
How do you stop equipment overheating in a TV unit?
Ventilation is designed in wherever equipment sits, with open backs, gaps or openings. We give each box its own space.
Can the TV be wall-mounted with a unit around it?
If the TV is wall-mounted, we design the unit around the bracket position. The bracket needs a sound wall so we check the wall at the design visit.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
