Fitting day, step by step

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is normally more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
  2. We visit to plan the unit and check the way in. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
  5. We bring the sections in, join them on the wall and scribe them to fit.

Before fitting day

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Arranging a design visit

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Advice

How we make TV and media units for North Wembley

Everything starts with the screen. The opening is planned around your current TV, or a bigger one if you’re likely to upgrade, with a margin so it is not a tight squeeze. The height of the screen matters as well: it should suit where you sit, not just the wall. People typically come to us about leads that show from every angle and games, controllers and remotes everywhere, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

A typical 1930s semi has a bay window at the front and a chimney breast with a recess either side. Interwar, semi-detached and detached houses make up a big part of the housing around North Wembley, so that layout is worth knowing well. We tend to plan TV and media units along the chimney breast wall so the bay keeps its light, though every room is measured first.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

FAQs: TV and media units in North Wembley

Does a conservation area in or near North Wembley affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

I live near Wembley Central station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can a TV unit hold speakers?

Speakers sound better in the open than shut in a cupboard. A soundbar can sit on a shelf below the screen. Tell us the speaker sizes when we visit.

What if I buy a larger TV?

We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind so the unit suits your next set. Tell us the size you might move to at the design visit.

How is the price worked out?

Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. You’ll get a quote in writing once we’ve measured up.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Tips worth knowing

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Check where the seating will go
  • Look at what the equipment makers say about airflow
  • Book your electrician first if sockets need to move
  • Mention parking and stairs when we visit

When you change equipment, use the cable routes we planned rather than drilling new holes. It keeps everything neat.

Keep heavy speakers and amplifiers on lower shelves, and no single shelf overloaded.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

Living-room storage in North Wembley

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 39% of the housing in the area around North Wembley, with about 22% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of North Wembley, Historic England’s list includes Church of St John (Grade II), under half a mile south-east, and Wembley Fire Station (Grade II), under half a mile south. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. About 39% of homes in the neighbourhood around North Wembley date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Houses from the 1920s and 1930s often have a bay window and a chimney breast in the front room, and TV and media units are planned around both.

If you live in a flat close to Wembley Central station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If you live near Preston Park, TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear. If your children go to Park Lane Primary School or a school nearby, TV and media units can be planned with low cupboards for toys and higher shelves for everything else.

Honest limits

We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:

  • Plastering or decorating around the unit
  • Configuring the TV and sound system
  • Connecting the TV signal or internet

If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Cable routes
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Ventilated cabinets

What it costs

Several things affect the price:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

Getting in touch

Ahead of the design visit, we’ll typically ask about:

  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • What the furniture needs to hold

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
