Perivale homes and TV and media units
About 77% of the homes in the streets around Perivale went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 11% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The Canalside Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Perivale. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 77% of homes in the streets around Perivale date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Interwar front rooms typically have a bay at the front and a chimney breast on the side wall, and TV and media units are planned around both.
Pitzhanger Manor, about 2 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. Close to Castle Bar Park? TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it. For a family home near St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design.
Perivale is about 2 miles south of Ealing, part of the London Borough of Ealing. We design and make TV and media units for homes in Perivale and across Ealing, as part of our work in every London borough. Perivale is one of the places in Ealing where we make TV and media units.
In UB6, HA0 and W5, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. You’ll find streets here like Lee Road, Wicket Road and Bilton Road, and we cover homes on all of them for TV and media units. Other places close to Perivale include Pitshanger (1 mile south), Brentham Garden Suburb (1 mile south-east), Sudbury Hill (1 mile north), Sudbury (1 mile north) and Greenford (1 mile west). Across the rest of Ealing, our area takes in Ealing (2 miles south), Acton (3 miles south-east), Southall (3 miles south-west), Northolt (2 miles west), Acton Green (4 miles south-east) and Bedford Park (4 miles south-east).

Cables are the part most people want to hide. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with openings and removable panels so you can add or swap leads later. The routes are ours, while any wiring is for your electrician. Typical reasons to get in touch are space for a soundbar and speakers and wasted space around the screen; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
A typical 1930s semi has a bay window at the front and a chimney breast with a recess either side. Around Perivale, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing, so it’s a layout worth planning for. TV and media units typically go on the chimney breast wall, leaving the bay clear, though every room is measured first.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

What else we make in Perivale
How fitting works for TV and media units
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.
- You contact us with details of the room, the TV and your equipment, and where the sockets are now.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go.
- You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish.
- The unit is built in our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
Preparing the room
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To arrange it, message us from the contact page and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
Related advice
How it’s made
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, so it is good for shelves that carry equipment and speakers.
Doors and drawer fronts
Doors can hide boxes and clutter.
Where other trades come in
We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:
- Plastering or decorating around the unit
- Structural changes to the wall
- Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)

Your questions about TV and media units in Perivale
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
I live near South Greenford station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
How long will the fitting take?
The time on site depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.
How do I get started?
Just message us from the contact page. It helps to send rough sizes and a few pictures, and we’ll arrange a design visit, followed by a written quote.
Will the cables be hidden?
We design the unit so cables run out of sight. Routes, openings and removable panels let you add or change leads later. If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan a route behind the screen.
Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?
We can plan for either a wall-mounted TV or one standing on the unit. For a wall-mounted TV, the layout works around the bracket position or we size the top for a TV that stands on it.
Bespoke TV and media units or ready-made?
An off-the-shelf TV stand is cheaper and quick to buy. A stand is also simple to swap when technology moves on. A built-in unit is planned for your room and your equipment. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Flats, conversions and lettings
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
