TV and media units for your home in Northolt
About our TV and media units in Northolt
Media equipment warms up as it runs, so sealing equipment in a cupboard is not a good idea. We plan ventilation into the unit, using open backs, gaps or openings where equipment sits. Equipment makers often say how much space their boxes need around them. Most enquiries start with leads that show from every angle and boxes with no ventilation, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
A house from between the wars normally has lower ceilings than a Victorian one, and the proportions of TV and media units are set to match. If yours is one of the interwar houses, semis or detached homes that make up much of the housing around Northolt, there may be little or no cornice, which lets the furniture run straight up to the ceiling. Any skirting is cut around neatly.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

From workshop to your room
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

How to get a quote
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Advice
What we do not do
Some parts of a job need another trade, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Removing a chimney breast or any structural work
- Plastering or decorating around the unit
- Connecting and setting up your equipment
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Your questions about TV and media units in Northolt
Is Northolt in the area you cover for TV and media units?
Yes, Northolt is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Ealing and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.
I live near Northolt Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can you build a TV unit for a wall-mounted TV?
Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket, with a route for the cables. The wall needs to be sound for the bracket.
What if I buy a larger TV?
The space can be sized for a larger TV so the unit suits your next set. Mention the largest screen you might buy when we visit.
Can a TV unit hold speakers?
Speakers and soundbars get open shelves sized for them. Closed doors muffle sound, so we leave them open.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.
Boards, parts and paint
Shelves
Shelves are sized for the equipment and speakers they carry, with room for cables behind.
Plinths and scribe strips
The plinth raises the unit and hides a sloping floor. It can line up with the skirting.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
How we price TV and media units
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Spray painting or hand painting
- The overall size of the piece
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
What to send when you contact us
To help us picture the room, please include:
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Examples of the look you are after
For a quote for TV and media units in Northolt, message us from the contact page. Tell us which room it is and roughly what you have in mind, plus any rough sizes. Next comes a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.

Northolt homes and TV and media units
About 42% of the homes in the area around Northolt went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 28% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Northolt, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Mary (Grade I), less than half a mile south. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If you live on or close to a main road in Northolt, let us know at the measuring visit. We will plan where the van can stop.
For a family home near Willow Tree Primary School, shelving with deep cupboards below keeps books, games and school things in one place. The wider area includes historic houses such as Northolt Manor, about 0.3 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. Close to Northala Fields? A room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone.
