TV and media units in Acton

If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan the panels and shelves around the bracket position and the cable route behind it. If the TV stands on the unit instead, the top is sized and positioned for it, with the cables kept out of sight. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are empty alcoves beside the TV and a screen at the wrong height.

Wherever your home in Acton sits in London’s mix of housing, TV and media units start with the room you actually have. Period rooms bring sloping floors and mouldings; newer rooms bring stud walls and service boxing. Each is measured, and the pieces are made to fit it.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

TV and media units in Acton: local notes

In the streets around Acton, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 43%) and the years since 2000 (about 28%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. There are 13 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Acton. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Around Acton, about 43% of homes date from before 1919, well above the figure for Ealing as a whole, about 28%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of TV and media units.

If you live near Ealing Common, TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear. Living in a block of flats near Acton Central station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. The wider area includes historic houses such as Gunnersbury Park, about 1.4 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.

Acton is in the London Borough of Ealing, about 2 miles west of Ealing. Wherever you are in Acton, it works the same way: a design visit, a quote in writing, furniture made in our workshop and fitting in your home. Our work takes in places right across Ealing.

Postcode districts we cover here for TV and media units: W3, W4, NW10 and W12. If your home is on a street like High Street, Church Road and Woodhurst Road, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for TV and media units. The B490 and A4000 run close to Acton; on busy main roads, unloading TV and media units takes a little planning. Neighbouring places we cover for TV and media units include Acton Vale (1 mile east), Acton Green (1 mile south), Bedford Park (1 mile south), Hanger Hill (1 mile north-west) and South Acton (1 mile south-west). Other parts of Ealing we cover include Ealing (2 miles west), Southall (5 miles west), Greenford (4 miles north-west), Northolt (5 miles north-west), Northfields (2 miles west) and South Ealing (2 miles west). Being one of the larger places in Ealing, Acton is covered for TV and media units and everything else we make.

Looking after your furniture

The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:

  • Talk to your electrician early about sockets
  • Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next
  • Note the size of each box and speaker
  • Note which boxes need line of sight for their remotes

After setting up, check that the boxes aren’t getting too warm. Don’t block the gaps and openings left for air with cables or clutter.

Don’t let clutter build up against the unit’s vents when you add equipment.

What affects the cost of TV and media units

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The width and height of the space
  • How square the room is

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.

Before the design visit

You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Where you live, with the postcode

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.

What happens on fitting day

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. For a flat, building rules and lift booking are worth checking early; if you live in a house, let us know about steps, paths and parking. Either way, the day is planned at the design visit. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You send us a note about the room and the unit you’d like.
  2. We visit to measure and talk through the design and how the unit should look in the room.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the finish set out.
  4. We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, and any hand painting is done in the room.

How to prepare

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Getting a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. To send them, use our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Advice

Questions from Acton

Is parking a problem for fitting in Acton?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.

What if I buy a larger TV?

We can size the opening for the screen you might buy next. It’s useful to know the size you’re thinking of so the space and cable routes suit it.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.

How much will my TV unit cost?

Each room is quoted on its own: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. The written quote follows the design visit.

What we don’t do

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Configuring the TV and sound system
  • Installing aerials, satellite dishes or broadband
  • Plastering or decorating around the unit

If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.
