Loft Storage in Northolt
In Northolt, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- Unused space in a dormer
- A loft room that still feels unfinished
- Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
Loft storage for your home in Northolt
How it’s made
Plinths and scribe strips
The floor in a loft room is rarely perfectly level. A plinth or adjustable feet let us set the storage level, so the doors and drawers run true.
Doors and drawer fronts
An access door into the eaves can match the rest of the fronts. It opens wide, so you can still get into the eaves. Around it, the fronts can be drawers, doors or a mix.

Dormers are a natural place for shelving or a small desk. Dormers have their own shapes, and walls that are seldom square. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It adds storage without taking up the main floor. At the design visit in Northolt, we will look at what fits. People typically come to us about no wardrobe that fits under the slope and an empty dormer that could hold shelves, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
A good part of the housing around Northolt is interwar, semi-detached or detached. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the bay window at the front, the space under the stairs and the box room are the usual places to gain storage. Any meters or fuse boards that need to stay reachable are designed around.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Off-the-shelf furniture is made for straight walls and full-height ceilings. Under a slope, it leaves large gaps and wasted space. Storage made for the loft follows its shape. It is a bigger investment, and the gain is the space it uses. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

How fitting day works
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

Your questions about loft storage in Northolt
Do you cover homes near Northolt Park station?
Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Does a conservation area in or near Northolt affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?
Every piece is made in sections that fit up the stairs. We measure the way up not just the room. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it is useful to be around at the end.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. You can send them when you use our contact form.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
What it costs
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- The width and height of the space
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Before the design visit
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Your postcode and the borough
- Examples of the look you’re after
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit. To book one, use our contact form.
