TV and media units in Park Royal: what you get

In many period living rooms, the chimney breast and its two alcoves shape the whole wall. Cupboards and shelves in the alcoves can hold the boxes, speakers and books. We keep any vent in the chimney breast clear. If you’re living with boxes with no ventilation and a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall, that is what TV and media units are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Many homes around Park Royal were built since 2000, and newer homes seldom have fitted storage in the living room. We plan TV and media units around the existing sockets and aerial points, with routes for cables designed in. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, which is fine for fitted furniture when the fixings are right.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

What we don’t do

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Structural changes to the wall
  • Aerial, satellite or broadband installation
  • Setting up and tuning the TV, boxes and speakers

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it is made from

Living-room storage in Park Royal

Homes built since 2000 make up about 57% of the housing in the area around Park Royal, with about 19% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. A conservation area lies within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Park Royal, going by Historic England’s data. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Ealing sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking at the design visit.

For a family home near West Twyford Primary School, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room. Pitzhanger Manor, about 2 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Park Royal is in the London Borough of Ealing, about 2 miles south-west of Ealing. Anywhere in Park Royal, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We cover places right across Ealing.

Postcode districts we cover here for TV and media units: NW10, W3 and W5. Whether you live on a street like Dukes Road, Abbey Road and Grieg Road or on one nearby, we can visit to measure up for TV and media units. If you’re just outside Park Royal, we also cover West Twyford (1 mile north-west), Hanger Hill (1 mile south-west), Stonebridge (1 mile north), Stonebridge Park (1 mile north) and Old Oak Common (1 mile east). Elsewhere in Ealing, we also cover Ealing (2 miles south-west), Southall (5 miles west), Greenford (3 miles west), Northolt (4 miles west), Acton Green (2 miles south) and Bedford Park (2 miles south).

Is bespoke worth it?

Bespoke furniture takes longer than buying from a shop: there is a design visit, a quote and making time. For a short stay, a standalone stand can make more sense. Large standalone pieces do not always fit the lift or the hallway, while fitted furniture comes in sections sized for the route. The sections are joined and fixed once inside.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What you get with us

  • Saturday work by arrangement
  • Over 300 projects completed
  • A spray or hand-painted finish
  • Scribed to uneven walls

Is it time for TV and media units?

In older living rooms, a TV can look out of place. A built-in unit around the chimney breast lets it sit more quietly.

People typically get in touch with us about needs like these:

  • Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
  • Set-top boxes stacked on a stand
  • A TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall
  • Wasted space around the screen

For a flat near Harlesden station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

How fitting day works

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, with heavier pieces tied into the studs. Other trades handle any new sockets or plumbing, ideally before fitting day.

  1. You send us a note about the room and the unit you’d like.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and talk about colour and finish.
  3. You get a written quote covering the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. The unit is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied once it’s in and is easy to touch up later. Go gently with new paintwork while it cures.

Before fitting day

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Getting a quote

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, use our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

FAQs: TV and media units in Park Royal

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Park Royal?

Yes, Park Royal is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Ealing and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.

Do you move sockets for a TV unit?

That’s a job for your electrician. Ideally it’s done before fitting.

Can a built-in unit hide all the wires?

That is the aim, and it’s planned from the start. Routes, openings and removable panels let you add or change leads later. If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan a route behind the screen.
