TV and media units for homes in Stonebridge

TV units are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The finish is spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. We work across London, including Stonebridge, after a design visit and a quote in writing. If your home has leads that show from every angle and a screen at the wrong height, that is what TV and media units are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A large share of the homes around Stonebridge date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes rarely come with any built-in shelving or media storage. We plan TV and media units around the existing sockets and aerial points, with routes for cables designed in. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, which is fine for fitted furniture when the fixings are right.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

What happens on fitting day

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer blocks often have concierge desks, entry systems and rules on lift booking, so it’s useful to sort them out in advance. The furniture is built in sections that fit the lift and doorways.

  1. You send us some details about the TV, the boxes and the speakers you use.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you.
  3. You receive a quote in writing setting out the unit, materials and finish.
  4. The unit is made at our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We install the unit, leaving the cable routes and vents clear.

Preparing the room

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Starting with a design visit

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Advice

Stonebridge homes and TV and media units

In the neighbourhood around Stonebridge, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 36%) and before 1919 (about 28%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Stonebridge is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your street in Stonebridge joins a main road, it’s worth telling us during the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live in a flat close to Harlesden station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. The wider area includes historic houses such as Pitzhanger Manor, about 2.8 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

Before and after fitting day

These points come up often when people plan TV and media units. They help before and after fitting:

  • Plan open spaces for anything controlled by a remote
  • Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next
  • Find out how much space each box needs around it
  • Plan any new sockets with your electrician before fitting

Vents and equipment shelves gather dust, so a quick clean now and then helps. Clear vents keep equipment cooler.

Do not let clutter build up against the unit’s vents.

Questions we’re often asked

I live near Harlesden station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Is Stonebridge in the area you cover for TV and media units?

Yes, we work across Brent, Stonebridge included, and across the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

How long does it take to fit a TV unit?

It depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The unit is made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?

The unit can be planned either way. For a wall-mounted TV, the layout works around the bracket position or we size the top for a TV that stands on it.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Why people ask for TV and media units in Stonebridge

Equipment on the floor is another reason. A unit gives every box its own space, with air to keep it cool, and keeps the floor clear.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Clutter around the TV
  • Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
  • Bought furniture that does not suit the room
  • A cabinet that traps heat

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • A quote in writing that sets out the job

Flats, blocks and rented homes

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we have measured the way in.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
