Living-room storage in Pitshanger
Homes built before 1919 make up about 43% of the housing in the streets around Pitshanger, with about 18% built between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 9 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Pitshanger. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Ealing is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Pitshanger fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Pitzhanger Manor, about 1.1 miles south. If your own home is a period one, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. If you live in a flat close to Castle Bar Park station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.
Pitshanger is about 1 mile south of Ealing, within the London Borough of Ealing. From period terraces to newer flats in Pitshanger, we measure the room as it is and design around it. Across Ealing, we cover Pitshanger, along with the rest of the borough.
Design visits and fitting in W5, W13 and UB6 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Whether you live on a street like Selby Road, Argyle Road and Kent Avenue or on one nearby, we can arrange a design visit for TV and media units. If you are just outside Pitshanger, we also cover Brentham Garden Suburb (1 mile east), Perivale (1 mile north), Ealing (1 mile south), Hanwell (2 miles south-west) and West Ealing (2 miles south-west). Across the rest of Ealing, our area takes in Acton (2 miles south-east), Southall (3 miles south-west), Northolt (3 miles north-west), Acton Green (3 miles south-east), Bedford Park (3 miles south-east) and Northfields (2 miles south).
Landmarks near Pitshanger
We fit furniture in homes around St Benedict's School, Brentham Clubhouse pub and Ealing Independent College and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Castle Bar Park station, roughly 0.8 miles west of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include London Transport Museum Depot (2 miles south-east) and Ealing Hospital (1.9 miles south-west). For a walk, there is Fox Wood and Castlebar Hill.
TV and media units in Pitshanger
Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes and the cable route behind it. If the TV stands on the unit instead, the top is sized and positioned for it, with the cables kept out of sight. Typical reasons to get in touch are somewhere to keep games tidy and a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, living rooms can be very different from one street to the next. You might have alcoves, a bay, a wide open-plan room or a compact one. The design for your home in Pitshanger starts from its own walls, and long shelves are sized not to sag.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the TV unit we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Common questions about TV and media units
I live in a flat in Pitshanger. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Pitshanger?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
How do you hide the TV cables?
That is the aim, and it is planned from the start. Access panels make future changes easy. If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan a route behind the screen.
What happens at the design visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.
How long will the fitting take?
It depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Could you do it yourself?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Fitting day, step by step
There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the measuring visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether brick, block, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, note where the sockets are and plan how the cables will run. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
- A quote in writing follows for the unit.
- We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, leaving routes for cables and gaps for air.
- We fit it in your home and leave the cable routes ready for you to use.
How to prepare
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

The problems TV and media units solve
A new, larger TV often prompts it. The old stand no longer suits it, or the screen takes over the room. Shelves and cupboards around the screen make it sit better in the room.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
- Wasted space around the screen
- A tangle of wires behind the TV
- Bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room
For families living near North Ealing Primary School, shelving with deep cupboards below keeps books, games and school things in one place.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- How they handle walls that are not straight
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
Bespoke TV and media units or ready-made?
Most stands have a cable hole or two at the back, but cables usually still show somewhere. We plan the cable routes into the design. Recesses, sloping ceilings and tricky corners are where ready-made furniture struggles most, and most homes have one somewhere. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Caring for painted furniture
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Think about which things need to be seen by a remote
- Choose how the TV will sit before the design is finished
- Count your equipment, including routers and consoles
- Check where the seating will go
Dust collects around equipment and vents, so a quick clean now and then helps. Clear vents keep equipment cooler.
Leave any new socket or wiring work to your electrician, and don’t daisy-chain adaptors.
