TV and Media Units in Ruislip

In Ruislip, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. We design your TV unit at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room
  • Boxes and consoles on the floor
  • A big screen that dominates the wall

What we do not do

We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:

  • Repairing plaster or redecorating
  • Moving sockets or adding new wiring, which is for your electrician
  • Aerial, satellite or broadband installation

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

About our TV and media units in Ruislip

Set-top boxes, consoles and amplifiers give off heat, so sealing equipment in a cupboard isn’t a good idea. We plan ventilation into the unit. It’s worth checking each maker’s guidance on clearances. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are standard units leaving gaps and boxes and consoles on the floor.

Around Ruislip, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. In a typical 1930s house, the front room has a bay at one end and a chimney breast with an alcove to either side, which decides where TV and media units sit. Walls are often truer than in older houses, but they’re still measured carefully and scribed where they wander.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

How it is made

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawers keep controllers and games tidy. They’re painted in the same colour as the rest.

Plinths and scribe strips

A plinth lifts the unit and takes up an uneven floor. It can line up with the skirting.

FAQs: TV and media units in Ruislip

Can you fit furniture in a home close to West Ruislip station?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Ruislip?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London, and Ruislip is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Can you add sockets behind the TV?

We don’t do electrical work. Your electrician handles sockets and wiring, and Part P of the Building Regulations covers some electrical work in homes. We share the layout so the sockets line up with the design.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Looking after your furniture

New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next
  • List every box, console and speaker that needs a home
  • Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit
  • Check where the seating will go

A soft, slightly damp cloth is all painted surfaces need. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners.

Avoid piling devices on one shelf because heat builds up between them. Each one needs space around it.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Living-room carpentry in Ruislip: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 58% of the housing in the area around Ruislip, with about 21% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The National Heritage List records 6 entries within half a mile of the centre of Ruislip. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Hillingdon sets its own rules. Depending on your street in Ruislip, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. We ask about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Living in a block of flats near West Ruislip station? Then TV and media units are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. Near listed buildings like Lady Bankes School, under half a mile south of the centre of Ruislip, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. If you live near Church Field Gardens, TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear.

Ruislip is part of the London Borough of Hillingdon. Whether your home in Ruislip is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our work takes in places right across Hillingdon, large and small.

Design visits and fitting in HA4, HA5, HA6 and UB5 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Streets in the area include High Street, The Uplands and Hawtrey Drive, and homes on each of them are within our area for TV and media units. The B466 and B472 runs close to Ruislip; on busy main roads, unloading TV and media units takes a little planning. Other places close to Ruislip include Ruislip Manor (1 mile south), Ruislip Gardens (1 mile south), Ickenham (2 miles south-west) and Hillingdon (3 miles south-west). We also make TV and media units in nearby places such as Hayes (4 miles south), Yeading (3 miles south), Yiewsley (3 miles south), West Drayton (6 miles south-west), Yiewsley (5 miles south-west) and Cowley (5 miles south-west). Fitting day, step by step

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You send us a note about the room and the unit you’d like.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and talk about colour and finish.
  3. A written quote follows, with the finish set out.
  4. We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, and any hand painting is done in the room.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

How to get a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
