Upminster TV and Media Units
In Upminster, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. Your TV unit is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.
- Set-top boxes stacked on a stand
- A cabinet that traps heat
- A tangle of wires behind the TV
Need TV and media units in Upminster?
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
How we make TV and media units for Upminster
Cables are the part most people want to hide. Cable routes are built into the design from the start, with openings and removable panels so you can add or swap leads later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall and clutter around the TV.
Many houses from between the wars, and many semis, have been extended or opened up inside, and around Upminster, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large share of the housing. A long through room gives TV and media units a whole wall to work with, or mark out the sitting end from the dining end. New plasterboard in an extension and older brick or block in the original house take different fixings.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Why bespoke in Upminster?
Standalone TV units cost less and arrive quickly. A stand is also simple to swap when technology moves on, which is a fair point in its favour. Bespoke units are made for one wall and the things you use. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

What it’s made from
Spray-painted finish
A sprayed coat covers edges and corners well. You choose the colour at the design stage.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish suits a TV unit in a period room. You choose the colour.
Fitting day, step by step
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are usually simple, though we still measure the route in as well as the room. TV and media units arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.
- You describe the TV wall and your equipment.
- We come to measure and talk through screen height, speakers and cables, with ventilation for boxes and amplifiers.
- A written quote follows. If anything in it is unclear, ask us.
- We then make the unit in our workshop, with cable routes planned in.
- The unit is fitted in your home, ready for your equipment.
Before we arrive
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Ask for a quote
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, get in touch through our contact form.

Common questions about TV and media units
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Upminster station?
Yes, homes across Havering and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Upminster?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
The furniture is built in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
TV and media units for homes in Upminster
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Upminster were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 52%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 32%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Upminster, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Laurence (Grade I), less than half a mile south-west, and Upminster Windmill (Grade II*), under half a mile west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your home is on or just off a main road, it’s useful to mention it. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
Close to St. Andrew's Park? TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear. For a flat near Upminster station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. For families living near Upminster Junior School, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room.

Caring for painted furniture
Looking after painted furniture is simple. These habits help most:
- Think about which things need to be seen by a remote
- Look at what the equipment makers say about airflow
- Choose how the TV will sit before the design is finished
- Talk to your electrician early about sockets
Painted finishes feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. For the first while, place equipment gently rather than sliding it.
Label cables when you set things up to make future changes easier.
