Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. What affects it comes down to:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- How many doors and drawers there are
We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Helping us understand the room
To help us picture the room, please include:
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.
Walk-in wardrobes in Bishopsgate: what you get
A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. It can be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is built in our workshop and fitted to the room, scribed to the walls and set level. If your home has proper shoe storage and more space for clothes and shoes, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
A large number of homes around Bishopsgate date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats with compact bedrooms. In a compact bedroom, fitted furniture that reaches the ceiling and uses the corners makes the most difference. Boxed-in pipes and service risers can be built around, so nothing is wasted.
The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Looking after your furniture
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Wipe painted surfaces with a soft, damp cloth
- Think about where shoes and bags will go
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Keep the room ventilated
Let air move through the walk-in wardrobe, particularly on a cooler external wall. Avoid packing clothes tight against the back of the units, so air can circulate.
If the room is on an external wall, have any damp sorted first. External walls can be colder and damper, so we allow for ventilation.
Where other trades come in
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It is useful to know these before you plan the job:
- Painting the walls of the room
- Lighting and wiring, which are for your electrician
- Fixing the cause of damp

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.
- First, you tell us about the space. A line on how you’ll use the room helps.
- The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside.
- A written quote is sent to you.
- Everything is made in our workshop.
- We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Bishopsgate?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it. The City is inside the Congestion Charge zone too, and the ULEZ covers all of London.
Does a conservation area in or near Bishopsgate affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?
Yes. Air needs to circulate around stored clothes, particularly on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. The units are designed with ventilation in mind.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
