Walk-in wardrobes in Whitechapel: what you get

Hanging space is the heart of most walk-in wardrobes. Full-length hanging takes coats, dresses and long garments, and two rails stacked one above the other suit shirts, jackets and trousers. The balance of long and double hanging is based on your clothes. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about moving wardrobes out of the bedroom and storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe.

Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 sometimes have big windows that take up much of a wall, so the remaining walls have to work harder. That’s worth planning for around Whitechapel, where many homes date from 2000 onwards, so we make the most of the walls you have. Corner sections are planned so nothing is wasted.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

A basic rail system is easy to change, and that has real appeal. A fitted walk-in wardrobe adds doors, drawers and shelves where you want them, in a finish that suits the house. Rooms in newer homes are often compact, and standard depths can take too much floor, while fitted furniture can be made shallower where space is tight. It can still go to the ceiling.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Whitechapel?

Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London, and Whitechapel is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Whitechapel station?

Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

The furniture is built in sections, sized for the route as well as the room. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease.

Can a walk-in wardrobe be part of a bedroom?

Yes, where the room is large enough. A section of the room can become a dressing area, with doors or left open. A new partition wall is building work, so that is for your builder.

Whitechapel homes and walk-in wardrobes

In the neighbourhood around Whitechapel, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 39%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 19%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. There are 271 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Whitechapel. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs. That usually means a van in Whitechapel needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council. Parking is worth mentioning at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Mansion House, about 0.9 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. Living in a block of flats near Whitechapel station? Then the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. If you live near Finsbury Circus, walk-in wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.

How fitting day works

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed during the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it is useful to let us know during the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You let us know about the room.
  2. We come to measure and discuss the design.
  3. You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The units are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.
  6. Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
