Our fitted wardrobes across EC1Y
In older bedrooms, the chimney breast alcoves are often the obvious place for clothes. A pair of alcove wardrobes keeps the chimney breast as a feature. Picture rails and cornices can be met neatly or cut around. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about storage boxes stacked under the bed and wardrobes that are full to bursting.
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind.
- We come to measure the room, check the walls and ceiling and agree the layout.
- You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish, so you can see what’s included.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
How our quotes work
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
What you get with us
- Scribed to uneven walls
- We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
- Workshop-made and fitted by us
Ask for a quote
We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Homes across EC1Y and their bedrooms
EC1Y has bedrooms of every shape, from bay-fronted rooms in older houses to tight rooms in modern flats. Fitted wardrobes are drawn up to suit the room you actually have.
In EC1Y, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 27%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. About 27% of homes in the EC1Y postcode district were built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Post-war bedrooms are typically simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, fixed to suit the wall. Around a third of the homes in the EC1Y postcode district (about 37%) were built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Newer homes often have compact bedrooms with plasterboard stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs.
We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in EC1Y, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. The process is the same wherever you are: a design visit, a written quote, then making and fitting.
Barbican Estate: If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Giles, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live in a flat close to Moorgate station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How big the furniture is
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
What to send when you get in touch
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
Practical tips
Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
- Check the route into your flat, not just the room
- Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
- Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
Leave a little space between clothes and the back of the wardrobe. A little airflow helps keep damp at bay.
Now and then, check that handles and hinges are tight and adjust doors before a rub marks the paint.
Flats, conversions and lettings
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
The problems fitted wardrobes solve
Couples often want storage that works for two. We can plan separate sections for each person, each with its own mix of hanging, shelves and drawers.
If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
Questions from EC1Y
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We’ll design around them.
How is the price worked out?
It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. We send a quote in writing after the design visit.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. That’s why we measure the route, not just the room. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.
Should I send pictures?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
How long will the fitting take?
It depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop.
