Walk-in wardrobes in Falconwood

About our walk-in wardrobes in Falconwood

Many London homes have a small room that is awkward as a bedroom. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. If your home has a dressing table with drawers and a mirror and turning a box room into a dressing room, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. A big part of the housing around Falconwood is interwar, semi-detached or detached. We work in lofts that are already converted, and the furniture is scribed to the slope and the walls.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Why bespoke in Falconwood?

Neither choice is right for every home. In a square room with a tight budget, a ready-made system may be enough. Where the room is tricky or you want it to feel built in, bespoke is typically the better fit. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and those are common in interwar houses. Fitted furniture is made around them.

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Why us?

  • Over 300 projects completed

Walk-in wardrobes in Falconwood: local notes

About 73% of the homes in the streets around Falconwood went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 13% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. About 73% of homes in the area around Falconwood date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Bexley has its own. If your road in Falconwood falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

Close to Shoulder of Mutton Green? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For families living near Bishop Ridley Church of England VA Primary School, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. If you live in a period home close to Bishop Ridley Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Falconwood

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Falconwood?

Yes. Falconwood is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Bexley and London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

I live near Welling station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking.

How long does fitting take?

How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will talk it through at the measuring visit.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Fitting day, step by step

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so it’s worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

What affects the price in Falconwood

What you pay depends on:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • How square the room is
  • The overall size of the piece

Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That’s reflected in the quote.

Helping us understand the room

To give us a picture of the room, it’s useful to include:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
