Walk-in wardrobes in Gidea Park: what you get

Our walk-in wardrobes are made for homes in Gidea Park and all over London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, then a quote in writing. Everything is built in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you will know before we start. People typically come to us about a built-in dressing table and moving wardrobes out of the bedroom; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Around Gidea Park, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. Many 1930s houses have a small box room over the stairs, often with a raised bulkhead in the floor. Main bedrooms from that era are often a good size, with a bay window at the front.

We write quotes in plain English. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Gidea Park

About 40% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Gidea Park went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 34% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 10 entries within half a mile of the centre of Gidea Park. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Around a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Gidea Park (about 34%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.

If you live near Raphael Park, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. The wider area includes historic houses such as Hare Hall, about 0.6 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Gidea Park

Couples sharing a wardrobe often want more space each. We can design separate areas for hanging, shelves and drawers, so neither of you is squeezed.

People normally get in touch with us about needs like these:

  • A calmer, clearer bedroom
  • Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • Shelves for shoes and bags

Near listed buildings like The Royal Liberty School, about 0.6 miles south-east of the centre of Gidea Park, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • How parking will work on your street

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

Before and after fitting day

These points come up often when people plan walk-in wardrobes. They help before and after fitting:

  • Decide on doors or open storage before we measure
  • Deal with any damp walls first
  • Count your shoes before the design visit
  • Measure how much long hanging you need

Keep heavy items low and lighter ones high and spread the weight along the rails. It helps the shelves and rails stay straight.

It helps to know what you’ll keep before we measure. The amount of long hanging, double hanging, shelving and shoe storage depends on what you own, so a clear-out first gives a better design.

What we don’t do

Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Painting the walls of the room
  • Damp treatment or repairs
  • New lights or sockets

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Fitting day, step by step

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know during the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
  2. We visit to plan the room and measure the way in, including stairs, landings and doorways. It helps to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. In our workshop we build the units in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Arranging a design visit

If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Gidea Park

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Gidea Park?

Yes, we work across Havering, Gidea Park included, and across the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Gidea Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do I get to choose the colour?

The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.

Is it better to have doors or open storage?

It is your choice. Doors keep dust off and give a calm, finished look, while open rails and shelves let you see everything. A mix of the two is common.

How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?

Every room is different. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.

What affects the price in Gidea Park

Several things affect the price:

  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How big the furniture is
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking at the design visit, so it can be planned.

Getting in touch

There is no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Approximate measurements of the space

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. When you’re ready, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.
