About our bespoke kitchens in Gidea Park

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, sized to what you keep in them. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts awkward space to work. Most enquiries start with cabinets built around the appliances you choose and an island where space allows, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Gidea Park, many kitchens have a garden door and a window that shape the layout. The cabinets and any larder or dresser are made for those walls. The worktop, sink and appliances you choose are built in, with plumbing and electrics left to your plumber and electrician.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Gidea Park

I live near Gidea Park station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Is Gidea Park in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes, Gidea Park is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Normally not. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can require listed building consent for works that affect their character.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

It’s made in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the design visit.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.

What affects the price in Gidea Park

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Parking near your home
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Helping us understand the room

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it’s useful to send:

  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To book one, use our contact form.

How fitting day works

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. A written quote follows for the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are

How to get a quote

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Advice

Kitchens in Gidea Park homes

About 40% of the homes in the streets around Gidea Park went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 34% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Gidea Park, Historic England’s list includes The Royal Liberty School (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south-east, and The Ship Public House (Grade II), less than half a mile south. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Havering is no exception. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

For a family home near Royal Liberty School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. If your home is one of the older houses near St Michael and All Angels Church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. The wider area includes historic houses like Hare Hall, about 0.6 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Connecting a gas hob or cooker

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Off-the-shelf kitchens are quicker to buy and usually cost less and they suit many newer homes. Where walls lean and floors slope, they can be hard to fit neatly. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.
