Walk-in wardrobes in Aldersbrook

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, which suits some people well. Bespoke joinery lets you mix doors, drawers, shelves and hanging, painted to match the room. Standard units assume square rooms, and period homes seldom have them, so it leaves gaps at the wall, tilts on sloping floors or sits awkwardly against skirting and picture rails. Fitted pieces follow the wall and sit level.

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It’s useful to talk about parking at the measuring visit.

Why us?

  • Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • Made for your room, not a standard size

Walk-in wardrobes in Aldersbrook: what you get

You do not need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. A corner or one end of a large bedroom can become a dressing area, either open to the room or behind doors. Any new partition wall is for your builder, and we fit the furniture inside. If your home has the right mix of long and short hanging and a use for a small spare room, walk-in wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

In a Victorian bedroom, the chimney breast typically sits on a side wall, with a recess to each side. A large share of the homes around Aldersbrook date from before 1919, so many bedrooms there may share that layout. Storage can go in each recess, with a bridge of cupboards over the chimney breast, leaving the breast itself clear. The flue behind is kept ventilated, and any damp is sorted first.

Our quotes are written in plain words. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

How fitting day works

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the room.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, planned around the way you get dressed.
  3. You receive a quote in writing, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The units are built in our workshop.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.

Advice

How we price walk-in wardrobes

There is no set price, because there’s no set room. What affects it comes down to:

  • How square the room is
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • The number of doors and drawers

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Before the design visit

These details help when you get in touch:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • What the furniture needs to hold

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

Honest limits

We make and fit furniture, and we don’t do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Building work to create the room
  • New lights or sockets
  • Advice on your lease

Not sure whether your space suits walk-in wardrobes? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?

Some homes have a small room that never quite earns its keep. Turning it into a dressing room can make better use of it instead of a store for odds and ends.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Room for two wardrobes in one space
  • Room for a growing wardrobe
  • Turning a box room into a dressing room
  • A calmer, clearer bedroom

If you live near Valentines Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

Bedroom storage in Aldersbrook

About 55% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Aldersbrook went up before 1919, and about 18% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Part of Aldersbrook is in the Aldersbrook Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Redbridge is inside it. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Aldersbrook. We plan parking and access with you at the measuring visit.

For an older house near Church of St Gabriel, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Living in a block of flats near Wanstead Park station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Questions from Aldersbrook

Do you cover homes near Wanstead Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Who chooses the colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

How are walk-in wardrobes priced?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Is ventilation important in a dressing room?

Yes. A room full of clothes needs air moving through it, particularly on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. The units are designed with ventilation in mind.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.
