  • Room for a growing wardrobe

Need walk-in wardrobes in Loughborough Junction?

The problems walk-in wardrobes solve

Couples sharing a wardrobe often want more space each. We can design separate areas for hanging, shelves and drawers, so both have room.

Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:

  • Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
  • A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
  • Room for a growing wardrobe
  • Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom

If you live near Max Roach Park, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How parking will work on your street
  • A quote in writing that sets out the job
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • How doors and drawers are fitted

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Loughborough Junction

Most designs start with the hanging. Long hanging suits coats and dresses, while double hanging, one rail above another, fits shirts and jackets into half the height. We plan the mix around what you actually wear. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a dressing area in part of a bedroom and turning a box room into a dressing room.

Spare rooms in flats usually have more than one job, so fitted furniture that keeps things out of sight helps it switch between them. Around Loughborough Junction, most households live in purpose-built flats. Doors and drawers are planned to open fully in the space you have.

Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Loughborough Junction homes and walk-in wardrobes

About 37% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Loughborough Junction went up before 1919, and about 21% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 16 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Loughborough Junction. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Lambeth is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Loughborough Junction fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.

The wider area includes historic houses like Kingswood House, about 2.6 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. If your home is one of the older houses near St Matthew's Camberwell, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Questions we’re often asked

Does a conservation area in or near Loughborough Junction affect fitted furniture?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Loughborough Junction?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?

Yes. Air needs to circulate around stored clothes, particularly against a cooler external wall. The units are designed with ventilation in mind.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.

Do you do the electrics for the lighting?

No, that’s electrical work for your electrician. We are carpenters, so we make and fit the units and plan space for the lighting you want.

Where other trades come in

We do not treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Electrical work in the room
  • Painting the walls of the room
  • Damp treatment or repairs

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Hanging, shelves and drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Dressing table
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Shoe storage

What affects the price in Loughborough Junction

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • The width and height of the space
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

What we need to know

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

If you are likely to move soon, standalone furniture you can take with you may suit better. How long you will stay is worth weighing up before choosing fitted. Big standalone units don’t always fit the lift or the turn on the stairs, while fitted furniture arrives in sections sized for the route. It’s then put together in the room.

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Why choose us

  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • Over 300 projects completed
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Saturday visits and fitting by prior arrangement

How fitting day works

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Communal areas and floors are protected on the way in.

  1. You let us know about the room and what you want to store, from long coats to shoes.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build everything in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room.

Before fitting day

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
