Wall beds for your home in Loughborough Junction

Wall beds in Loughborough Junction

You need room in front of the cabinet to lower the bed, and that shapes the design. Furniture in front of the bed has to be easy to move or kept out of the way when the bed is down. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are a living room with a bed that folds away and a guest room that sits empty most of the time.

Most households around Loughborough Junction live in purpose-built flats, and in a flat, bedrooms rarely have space to spare. Taking fitted furniture up to the ceiling adds storage without using more floor. The furniture is built in sections that fit the route into the flat, and assembled once it’s inside.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Bespoke wall beds or ready-made?

A sofa bed is cheaper and simpler, and for occasional guests that may be enough. A wall bed takes a proper mattress and gives back the floor, which matters in a small room. Standalone furniture takes up floor without using the height of the room. Built-in pieces use the full height and the awkward corners, leaving more floor clear.

Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

Bedroom storage in Loughborough Junction

About 37% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Loughborough Junction went up before 1919, and about 21% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how wall beds are fixed and fitted. Within a mile of the centre of Loughborough Junction, 16 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. That typically means a van in Loughborough Junction needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council. Tell us what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

For a family home near St Saviour's Church of England Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If your home is one of the older houses near St Matthew's Camberwell, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice. If you live near Max Roach Park, wall beds are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

How fitting day works

At the end, we tidy up. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. How long fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking near blocks of flats can be limited, and loading may need planning, so details of bays, permits or a loading area help. Once inside, the sections are joined and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. We start with what the room is for, day and night. A desk or shelving around the bed can be part of it.
  2. We visit, measure up and check the wall the bed will fix to.
  3. You get a written quote for the bed cabinet and any storage around it.
  4. We build and finish the bed housing and storage in our workshop.
  5. The bed and cabinets are fitted in your home and the mechanism fixed securely. The finish is sprayed in our workshop or painted by hand on site.

Before we arrive

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Advice

Your questions about wall beds in Loughborough Junction

My home in Loughborough Junction is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Wall beds are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Loughborough Junction?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Can a wall bed have storage around it?

Yes, and it’s one of the best ways to use the wall. Shelves and cupboards around the bed make the most of the space, and any new sockets are for your electrician.

What space does a fold-down bed take up?

It depends on the bed size and the mechanism. We measure up and make sure the bed has room to fold down.

Are fold-down beds safe to use?

Safety depends on a secure fixing and sensible use. The mechanism is fixed exactly as its maker sets out, and you keep the space in front clear and children away while it moves.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Caring for painted furniture

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Tell us what the wall is made of if you know
  • Consider how many people will sleep in it
  • Plan a cupboard for spare bedding
  • Lower and lift the bed steadily

Before you first use the bed, read the mechanism maker’s guidance on lowering and lifting it. Make sure the floor in front is clear before the bed comes down, and don’t let children play with it.

Let us know what the wall is made of if you know. Solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard need different fixings, and we check it during the design visit too.
