Walk-in Wardrobes in Waterloo

Planning walk-in wardrobes for a home in Waterloo? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing.

  • A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • Somewhere for shoes to live

Walk-in wardrobes in Waterloo

What it costs

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • Parking near your home
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What we need to know

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Waterloo

Most designs start with the hanging. Long hanging suits coats and dresses, and two rails stacked one above the other suit shirts, jackets and trousers. The balance of long and double hanging is based on your clothes. We make walk-in wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are separate space for two people’s clothes and storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe.

Stud walls in newer homes can carry pipes and cables, so we check before fixing into them. Many homes around Waterloo date from 2000 onwards, so this check is routine. Tall pieces are tied into the studs, not just the board.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

What we do not do

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:

  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Curing damp in the walls
  • Building work to create the room

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hanging, shelves and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Dressing table
  • Shoe storage
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Door frames and corners get covers too. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Tips worth knowing

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Measure how much long hanging you need
  • Think about where shoes and bags will go
  • Keep the room ventilated
  • Give the paint time to cure fully

Adjustable shelves can be moved as your clothes change, so the space keeps working. It is worth a rethink each season.

Before the design visit, sort through your clothes. We plan the layout around your clothes, so it’s worth having a sort-out first.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Waterloo

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Waterloo were built since 2000 (about 43%) and before 1919 (about 18%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. 36 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Waterloo. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Lambeth included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Waterloo. How the van gets to your door is planned at the design visit.

If you live in a period home close to Christ Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. For families living near Oasis Academy Johanna, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. For a flat near London Waterloo station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Waterloo is about 2 miles south of Stockwell, in the London Borough of Lambeth. Wherever you are in Waterloo, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. In Lambeth, Waterloo is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 22 places on our list.

In SE1, SE11 and WC2N, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We also cover the places around Waterloo: South Bank (1 mile north-west), Bankside (1 mile north-east), Adelphi (1 mile north-west), Temple (1 mile north) and Charing Cross (1 mile north-west). When is bespoke worth it?

It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Waterloo

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Waterloo?

Yes. We cover all of Lambeth and the rest of London, and Waterloo is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

I live in a flat in Waterloo. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
