Walk-in wardrobes in South Bank

About our walk-in wardrobes in South Bank

A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. The layout leaves room to move and to see what you have. If you are living with a bedroom without crowded wardrobes and room for two wardrobes in one space, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Around South Bank, most households live in purpose-built flats, and many blocks have rules about using the lift and when work can happen. Checking with the building’s managing agent early keeps the day running smoothly. If your flat is leasehold, your lease may also need checking before walk-in wardrobes are fixed to the walls.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in South Bank

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in South Bank?

Yes, South Bank is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Lambeth and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

I live in a flat in South Bank. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form.

How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?

The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We will talk it through at the design visit.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

Is a box room big enough for a walk-in wardrobe?

In many cases, yes. It depends on the room’s shape and where the door and window sit, so we work it out when we measure.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route during the design visit.

Looking after your furniture

People planning walk-in wardrobes often ask about these. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:

  • Line up your electrician for any new lights
  • Think about whether you want doors
  • Keep the room ventilated
  • Give the paint time to cure fully

Where we’ve fitted adjustable shelves, you can move them to suit what you store. It’s worth a rethink each season.

A new partition wall is building work, so it comes before us. We make and fit the units inside.

Bedroom storage in South Bank

Homes built before 1919 make up about 36% of the housing in the streets around South Bank, with about 32% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of South Bank include Royal Festival Hall (Grade I), less than half a mile north, and Banqueting House (Grade I), under half a mile west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Streets close to central London are often narrow and busy, with loading bays in short supply, so carrying the sections from the van to the door takes planning.

Close to Jubilee Gardens? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For an older house near St John's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. For a flat near London Waterloo station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

South Bank is about 3 miles south of Stockwell, in the London Borough of Lambeth. We cover South Bank as part of our work across Lambeth. We cover places right across Lambeth, large and small.

If you’re just outside South Bank, we also cover Waterloo (1 mile south-east), Adelphi (1 mile north-west), Charing Cross (1 mile north-west), Temple (1 mile north-east) and Aldwych (1 mile north). Other parts of Lambeth we cover include Stockwell (3 miles south), Kennington (2 miles south), Streatham (5 miles south), West Norwood (5 miles south), North Brixton (2 miles south) and Little Portugal (2 miles south).

Fitting day, step by step

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking near blocks of flats can be limited, and loading may need planning, so details of bays, permits or a loading area help. Once inside, the sections are joined and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. First, you let us know about the space and how you dress.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and talk through hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is made and finished in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The units are fitted in your home and trimmed to follow the walls. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

Modular units are made in fixed sizes and rarely reach the ceiling. A bespoke design can run to the ceiling and fill the walls, so very little space goes to waste. Off-the-shelf furniture is sized for an average room, and flats are rarely average, leaving gaps or crowding a door or radiator. Built-in pieces are designed around them.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
