Ruislip Gardens Walk-in Wardrobes

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Ruislip Gardens, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Long and double hanging planned around your clothes

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Ruislip Gardens

A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, either open to the room or behind doors. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that is for your builder, and we fit the furniture inside. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are more space for clothes and shoes and turning a box room into a dressing room.

The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, so fitted storage normally goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Around Ruislip Gardens, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so that shape of room is worth knowing. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

What it is made from

Doors and drawer fronts

We make doors in a style that suits the room and finish them to match. Some areas can be left open.

Birch plywood

Drawer boxes take daily use and need to be sturdy.

How fitting day works

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are typically straightforward, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it is going, with floors protected throughout.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. We come to measure and go through the design.
  3. You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Before fitting day

Starting with a design visit

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a quote in writing. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Ruislip Gardens

Most people come to us because their clothes have outgrown their wardrobes. Clothes are squashed together and shoes pile up. A dressing room spreads it all out so you can see it.

Here’s what walk-in wardrobes can help with:

  • Turning a box room into a dressing room
  • A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
  • Shelves for shoes and bags
  • Long and double hanging planned around your clothes

For a family home near Ruislip High School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber

Questions we are often asked

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Ruislip Gardens?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to South Ruislip station?

Yes, homes across Hillingdon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

How much time does fitting need?

Every room is different. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you’ll know before we start.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.

Should a walk-in wardrobe have doors?

It’s your choice. Doors give a tidy look and help keep dust away, and open storage makes things quick to find. A mix of the two is common.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.

What we don’t do

It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Building a new partition wall
  • Electrical work in the room
  • Fixing the cause of damp

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Off-the-shelf wardrobe systems are quicker to get and typically cost less, and in a square room they can work. In an older room with uneven walls and a sloping floor, they leave gaps. A bespoke walk-in wardrobe is made to the room. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Bedrooms in Ruislip Gardens: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Ruislip Gardens were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 53%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 24%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Ruislip Gardens include Church of St Paul (Grade II), less than half a mile north. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Terraced houses are more common around Ruislip Gardens than across Hillingdon: about 36% of households, against about 20%, the 2021 Census shows. Terraces bring narrow halls and tight stairs, so walk-in wardrobes are made in sections that fit.

The wider area includes historic houses like Ickenham Hall, about 1.3 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
