Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Temple
Our walk-in wardrobes are made for homes in Temple and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure and plan the layout, followed by a quote. Once agreed, we make the units in our workshop and fit them in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you will know before we start. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about more space for clothes and shoes and separate space for two people’s clothes.
A large share of the homes around Temple were built before 1919, and bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. Fitted storage can sit in the alcoves or span the wall, chimney breast and all. Because older floors slope and walls bow, everything is scribed and levelled on site.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

Materials and finishes
Hanging rails
Full-length hanging suits coats and long garments, with double hanging elsewhere.
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers suit smaller things, and they can sit below the hanging or shelves.
What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes
Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Parking near your home
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit.
Getting in touch
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Where you live, with the postcode
It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Temple?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
My home in Temple is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Walk-in wardrobes are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The size of the room, the layout and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Should I send photos?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
What happens at the measuring visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it is useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturdays can be arranged.
- First, you let us know about the space and how you dress. It could be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom.
- We visit, measure up and plan the layout with you.
- We send a quote that sets out the layout, materials and finish.
- The units are built in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The units are fitted in your home and trimmed to follow the walls. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
Preparing the room
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
Getting a quote
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Advice

Flats, conversions and lettings
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we’ve measured the way in.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
Bedroom storage in Temple
In the streets around Temple, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 48%) and the years since 2000 (about 22%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Temple is partly covered by the Temples Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Temple (about 48%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Houses of that age often have a small back bedroom or box room that can become a walk-in wardrobe, with storage scribed to walls that wander.
Close to Garden Bridge? Walk-in wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. Dr Johnson's House, about 0.2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. Near listed buildings like Middle Temple Hall, less than half a mile north-west of the centre of Temple, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
