Walk-in Wardrobes in Clare Market

  • Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe
  • Room for two wardrobes in one space
  • A use for a small spare room

Need walk-in wardrobes in Clare Market?

Walk-in wardrobes in Clare Market

A walk-in wardrobe needs air moving through it, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Good ventilation helps avoid condensation and mould, and we design the units to allow for it. If you are living with proper shoe storage and a side each for a couple, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A large share of the homes around Clare Market were built before 1919, and bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. Fitted storage can sit in the alcoves or span the wall, chimney breast and all. Because older floors slope and walls bow, everything is scribed and levelled on site.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Questions we are often asked

Can you fit furniture in a home close to London Charing Cross station?

Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Clare Market?

Yes, Clare Market is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Westminster and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?

Often, yes. We can line a small room with hanging, shelving and drawers, while leaving space to stand and turn. We check the room at the measuring visit.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. We cannot advise on leases, so please check yours.

How fitting day works

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

  1. You let us know about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. The units are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.

Preparing the room

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Tell us about parking near your home

Arranging a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a quote in writing. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Clare Market homes and walk-in wardrobes

In the neighbourhood around Clare Market, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 48%) and the years since 2000 (about 22%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. There are 716 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Clare Market. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Near central London, streets tend to be narrow and busy, so carrying the sections from the van to the door takes planning, particularly for larger pieces.

If your home is one of the older houses near Enon Chapel, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. For a flat near London Charing Cross station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If you live near Lincoln's Inn Fields, walk-in wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Looking after your furniture

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. These habits help most:

  • Make sure walls are dry before units go in
  • Talk to your electrician early about lighting
  • Think about whether you want doors
  • Give the paint time to cure fully

We adjust doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, so hinges allow small adjustments later.

Plan any lighting with your electrician in good time. Wiring is their work, not ours, and it’s easier to plan the units around it from the start.

Why bespoke in Clare Market?

A basic rail system is easy to change, which suits some people well. A fitted walk-in wardrobe adds doors, drawers and shelves where you want them, in a finish that suits the house. Ready-made tall pieces have to be fixed to the wall for safety, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

What you get with us

  • Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

  • Work across the whole of London
  • Made for your room, not a standard size

Take a look at how bespoke compares with ready-made and what to look for in a quote.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.

When you need someone else

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Curing damp in the walls
  • New lights or sockets
  • Plastering, decorating or flooring

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.
