Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Temple Bar?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to City Thameslink station?
Yes. We cover all of the City of London and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Typically not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.
Walk-in wardrobes in Temple Bar: what you get
Many London homes have a small room that is tricky as a bedroom. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. If your home has a bedroom without crowded wardrobes and proper shoe storage, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Temple Bar, many bedrooms sit against solid brick external walls. Cold external walls can lead to condensation, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture is part of the design. Smaller back bedrooms in houses of that age are good places for walk-in wardrobes.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

From workshop to your room
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

Temple Bar homes and walk-in wardrobes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 48% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Temple Bar, with about 22% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The centre of Temple Bar is within about a quarter of a mile of the Strand Conservation Area. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. About 48% of homes in the area around Temple Bar were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses of that age often have a small back bedroom or box room that can become a walk-in wardrobe.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Dr Johnson's House, about 0.2 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. For a flat near City Thameslink station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in Temple Bar
Some want somewhere to sit and get ready. We can design a dressing table into the room next to the hanging and shoe storage.
Here’s what walk-in wardrobes can help with:
- Turning a box room into a dressing room
- A built-in dressing table
- Long and double hanging planned around your clothes
- A dressing area in part of a bedroom
If you live near Lincoln's Inn Fields, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.
What to check before you book
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
Flats, blocks and rented homes
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot advise on your lease.
What it costs
Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How square the room is
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Spray painting or hand painting
Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.
What we need to know
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it is useful to send:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Before and after fitting day
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Plan lighting with your electrician
- Keep the room ventilated
- Think about long versus double hanging
- Think about where shoes and bags will go
New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first and avoid harsh cleaners.
A new partition wall is building work, so it comes before us. We fit the furniture once the room is ready.
