In the streets around Tokyngton, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 40%) and the years since 2000 (about 35%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Tokyngton include Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph (Grade II), about 0.6 miles north-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Brent is inside it. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Tokyngton is covered by it. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.
For families living near Elsley Primary School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live in a flat close to Stonebridge Park station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If your home is one of the older houses near St Michael the Archangel, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

About our walk-in wardrobes in Tokyngton
Our walk-in wardrobes are made for homes in Tokyngton and all over London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, followed by a quote. Everything is built in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you’ll know before we start. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about somewhere for shoes to live and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror.
In a compact bedroom, the swing of hinged doors can clash with the bed, so the layout and the kind of door are worked out together. Many homes around Tokyngton were built since 2000, and bedrooms in newer homes are often compact. The space in front is measured as carefully as the wall.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we’ve designed for the room, what it is made from and how it is finished.

Looking after your furniture
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Consider a mix of doors and open shelves
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Count your coats and long garments
- Give the paint time to cure fully
Adjustable shelves can be moved as your clothes change to suit what you store. A seasonal tidy keeps it working well.
If you want a partition to create the walk-in wardrobe, talk to a builder first. We fit the furniture once the room is ready.
How it is made
Hand-painted finish
If you’d like the units to match the room’s woodwork, hand painting on site works well.
Moisture-resistant MDF
We use moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, giving a smooth finish.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.
FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Tokyngton
I live near Stonebridge Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Tokyngton?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you use our contact form.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?
Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, and we fit the furniture once any building work is done.
Is ventilation important in a dressing room?
Yes, it helps avoid condensation and mould. We design the units to let air move, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.
Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- To begin, send us a few details through our contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
- A quote in writing follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
- The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.
Preparing the room
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Advice
Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Neither choice is right for every home. For a simple space, off-the-shelf can do the job. For awkward rooms, period homes or a built-in look, a bespoke design tends to earn its place. In an open-plan room, standalone pieces can look scattered, whereas fitted furniture can define each part of the room.
There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.
