Walk-in wardrobes in Kilburn

We fit walk-in wardrobes in Kilburn and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, followed by a quote. Everything is built in our workshop and fitted in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If your home has more space for clothes and shoes and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Floors in older houses often slope, and a large share of the homes around Kilburn are that old. Fitted furniture sits on a plinth or adjustable feet set level, so the doors line up and the gaps run straight. Where the wall bows, the edge is scribed to follow it.

The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.

Is bespoke worth it?

Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, and that has real appeal. Bespoke joinery lets you mix doors, drawers, shelves and hanging, painted to match the room. Standard units assume square rooms, and period homes seldom have them, so it leaves gaps at the wall, tilts on sloping floors or sits awkwardly against skirting and picture rails. Fitted furniture is scribed to the wall instead.

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, message us from the contact page.

Why work with us in Kilburn

  • Saturday work by prior arrangement
  • Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • A design visit, then a written quote

See bespoke vs off-the-shelf and what a quote should include.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes

Several things affect the price:

  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How big the furniture is

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.

Before the design visit

When you contact us, these help most:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • How you want to use the space
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

What happens on fitting day

You won’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed during the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Hand painting, if that’s your finish, can follow the fitting.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. We come to measure and discuss the design.
  3. You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Let us know about parking near your home

Questions we’re often asked

My home in Kilburn is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Kilburn?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?

Yes, where the room is large enough. One end or a corner can be set aside with a run of units, open or behind doors. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.

Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?

Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. We design the units to let air move and walls should be dry before we fit.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Kilburn

Sharing one wardrobe between two rarely works for long. We can design separate areas for hanging, shelves and drawers, so both have room.

A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:

  • A built-in dressing table
  • Separate space for two people’s clothes
  • A use for a small spare room
  • A bedroom without crowded wardrobes

If your children go to Salusbury Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • A quote in writing that sets out the job
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber

Walk-in wardrobes in Kilburn: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Kilburn were built before 1919 (about 59%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 14%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. 5 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Kilburn. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Purpose-built flats are home to about 50% of households in the neighbourhood around Kilburn, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. For a flat, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Augustine, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. If your home is one of the older houses near St Anne's and St Andrew's, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
