What happens on fitting day

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

  1. You let us know about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. A quote in writing follows.
  4. We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.
  6. Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Before fitting day

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Starting with a design visit

It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we will arrange a design visit.

About our walk-in wardrobes in Cricklewood

We fit walk-in wardrobes in Cricklewood and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, then a quote in writing. Once agreed, we make the units in our workshop and fit them in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you will know before we start. If your home has a use for a small spare room and room for a growing wardrobe, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

With a large share of homes around Cricklewood built before 1919, many bedrooms sit against solid brick external walls. Cold external walls can lead to condensation, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture is part of the design. Smaller back bedrooms in houses of that age are good places for walk-in wardrobes.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.

Caring for painted furniture

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Think about whether you want doors
  • Plan shoe storage around what you own
  • Have a clear-out before we measure
  • Deal with any damp walls first

If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can be touched in. A spray finish gives a smooth surface that wipes clean.

Talk to your electrician early about lighting. New lights and wiring are for them, and it is easier to plan the units around it from the start.

Bedrooms in Cricklewood: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Cricklewood were built before 1919 (about 63%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 12%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Cricklewood include Church of St Gabriel (Grade II), less than half a mile south, and The Crown Public House (Grade II), under half a mile north-east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. We can then plan where the van will stop.

If you live near Gladstone Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. For families living near Anson Primary School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Questions we’re often asked

How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Cricklewood?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Walk-in wardrobes are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Cricklewood station?

Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do I get to choose the colour?

The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

That is normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?

Yes. We design the units to make a dressing area within the bedroom, and we fit the furniture once any building work is done.

Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?

Yes. A room full of clothes needs air moving through it, particularly against a cooler external wall. We allow for ventilation in the design.

Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in Cricklewood

Some want somewhere to sit and get ready. We can design a dressing table into the room next to the hanging and shoe storage.

Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:

  • Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts
  • Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
  • More space for clothes and shoes
  • A use for a small spare room

Fenton House, about 1.7 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
