Need walk-in wardrobes in Stonebridge?

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Stonebridge

A walk-in wardrobe needs air moving through it, particularly on an external wall, which can be colder than internal walls. Moving air helps keep clothes fresh and stops damp building up, so we allow for it in the design. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a walk-in wardrobe in a box room and a built-in dressing table.

In a home built since 2000, stud walls may hide pipes and cables, so the walls are checked before anything is fixed. Many homes around Stonebridge date from 2000 onwards, so this check is routine. Heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Flats, leases and landlords

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so each section is sized to get through.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.

Stonebridge homes and walk-in wardrobes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Stonebridge were built since 2000 (about 36%) and before 1919 (about 28%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Stonebridge is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 36% of homes in the streets around Stonebridge were built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 tend to be compact, with stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs.

If you live near St. Raphael's Edible Garden, walk-in wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. For a flat near Harlesden station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your children go to The Stonebridge School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

If you are likely to move soon, standalone furniture you can take with you may suit better. It is worth thinking about how long you plan to stay before choosing fitted. In a newer flat, big flat-pack units can be hard to get into the lift or through the door, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections that fit. The sections are joined and fixed once inside.

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To start, message us from the contact page.

What happens on fitting day

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. We start with the space and the clothes it needs to hold.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build everything in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room. We then check the doors and drawers with you.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Stonebridge

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Stonebridge?

Yes, Stonebridge is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Brent and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Does a conservation area in or near Stonebridge affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The size of the room, the layout and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, message us from the contact page.

What happens when you come to measure?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?

Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. We design the units to let air move, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.
