Kenton Walk-in Wardrobes

Thinking about walk-in wardrobes in Kenton? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a written quote, before anything is made.

  • Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
  • Somewhere for shoes to live

Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room

About our walk-in wardrobes in Kenton

You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors give a tidy, finished look and help keep dust away, and open rails make it quick to find things. We will discuss the options at the design visit. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are room for two wardrobes in one space and a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom.

The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, so fitted storage usually goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Around Kenton, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so that shape of room is worth knowing. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Flats, leases and landlords

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases.

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you contact us.

Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Kenton?

Some homes have a small room that never quite earns its keep. Fitted out as a walk-in wardrobe, it becomes part of everyday life instead of a store for odds and ends.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe
  • Room for two wardrobes in one space
  • Somewhere for shoes to live
  • Long and double hanging planned around your clothes

If you live in a flat close to Kenton station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?

Tips worth knowing

These points come up often when people plan walk-in wardrobes. They help before and after fitting:

  • Sort through your clothes before the design visit
  • Keep the room ventilated
  • Count your coats and long garments
  • Line up your electrician for any new lights

Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.

Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.

What we don’t do

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Curing damp in the walls
  • Advice on your lease
  • Structural changes or removing walls

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Spray-painted finish

  • Dressing table
  • Shoe storage

From workshop to your room

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is usually more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. You get in touch and describe the room.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and check how the units will reach the room. It is useful to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. In our workshop we build the units in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls.

Before fitting day

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Advice

Bedroom storage in Kenton

About 84% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Kenton went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 7% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Kenton is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. More than half of the homes in the streets around Kenton (about 84%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.

If you live near Preston Park, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Near listed buildings like Church of St Mary and Parish Hall, less than half a mile west of the centre of Kenton, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Kenton is within the London Borough of Brent, about 6 miles south-east of Kilburn. Design visits and fitting in Kenton can be on a Saturday, by prior arrangement. Kenton is one of 29 places on our list for Brent.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Kenton?

Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London, and Kenton is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Can a walk-in wardrobe be part of a bedroom?

Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, and we fit the furniture once any building work is done.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

It is made in sections, sized for the route along with the room itself. At the design visit, we measure the route along with the room itself.

Who chooses the colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.
